Why are some M1 MacBook models susceptible to screen cracks?

Washington, DC-based law firm Migliaccio & Rathod is currently investigating web reports and complaints from users who experienced screen cracks on Apple’s new MacBook Pro and Air. Writing on Reddit, Apple’s forums and social media, many affected users claim to have spent upwards of $600 for an out-of-pocket repair or a screen replacement.

That’s because Apple’s standard warranty does not cover display damage. In some cases, however, Apple apparently did cover repair costs. Making this matter worse, there’s no guarantee that the screen crack defect won’t reoccur at a later date. According to complaints, this is almost certainly a real issue rather than some sort of accidental damage.

M1 MacBook screen cracks: A real issue or imagination?

Even though we don’t know what percentage of new MacBook buyers have experienced this, Migliaccio & Rathod will probably target Apple with a class-action lawsuit.

The firm cites “widespread reports” of Retina displays being susceptible to screen cracks during normal usage. Some owners saw cracks appear while adjusting display angle.

According to an announcement on the Migliaccio & Rathod website:

Users allege that they have opened their devices from the closed position without applying any undue pressure, only to find dramatic cracks in the Retina display, often accompanied by black bars running across the screen.

Apple support apparently described the issue to one disgruntled customer as “a contact point crack.” Apple has certainly been aware of this issue for the better part of 2021 because first reports detailing the problem date back to December 2020.

What’s Apple’s stance on cracked M1 MacBook screens?

Those who took their notebook to Apple heard from a representative that his could happen when a piece of debris is lodged between the keyboard and screen upon its closing.

We’re not into servicing sophisticated notebooks so we don’t really know whether that’s true or not. For what it’s worth, that explanation sounds too silly to be true, at leasts to us.

So are you an M1 MacBook Pro or M1 MacBook Air customer whose Retina display has suffered from screen cracking? If so, then certainly feel free to contact Migliaccio & Rathod at info@classlawdc.com or by their US phone number (202) 470-3520.
