Apple TV+ goes behind the scenes with upcoming musical comedy series ‘Schmigadoon!’

With less than a week to go before Schmigadoon! makes its grand entrance on Apple TV+, the streaming service is promoting the series with a new behind the scenes showcase. In it, we get plenty of footage of the upcoming show. But also some input from the cast and creators.

As is par for the course, Apple TV+’s behind the scenes videos are similar to everyone else’s. We’re gifted with footage of the show itself, a mix of what we’ve already seen before (thanks to the official trailer Apple TV+ released back in June), and some new footage scattered throughout. With that, the cast and creators sit in front of the camera and tell us about the show and what’s supposed to make it great.

The BTS video is just over three minutes in length. It gives a good look at the upcoming musical comedy series, one of the most interesting projects coming to Apple TV+. If you like musicals, that is. You can check out the video below.

Here’s how Apple describes the upcoming series:

A parody of iconic musicals, Schmigadoon! is a new musical comedy series executive produced by Lorne Michaels and starring Emmy Award nominee Cecily Strong and Emmy Award winner Keegan-Michael Key as a couple on a backpacking trip designed to reinvigorate their relationship when they discover a magical town in which everyone is living in a studio musical from the 1940s. They then discover that they can’t leave until they find ‘true love.’

Schmigadoon! will have six episodes in its first season. It isn’t described as a limited series, though, so it’s possible it could be renewed for a second. Along with Strong and Key, the series will star Alan Cumming (The Good Wife), Fred Armisen (Portlandia), Kristen Chenoweth (Wicked), and many others are set to star in the series as well.

Schmigadoon! is co-created by Ken Daurio and Cinco Paul, with the latter the showrunner and writer of the original musical in the series.

The upcoming musical comedy series is set to premiere on Friday, July 16, 2021.
