Apple TV+ shares official trailer for musical comedy ‘Schmigadoon!’ ahead of July 16 premiere

Apple TV+ has been gearing up to launch a new musical comedy series for quite some time. And with its star-studded cast, it’s been on the radar of a lot of people. And today we finally get our first look (in motion) of the upcoming show.

Today, Apple TV+ shared the first official trailer for the streaming service’s upcoming musical comedy Schmigadoon!. The series is executive produced by Lorne Michaels (Saturday Night Live), and stars Academy Award nominee Cecily Strong (Saturday Night Live) and Emmy Award winner Keegan-Michael Key (Dolemite Is My Name).

Apple has already confirmed the series will premiere on Apple TV+ on Friday, July 16, 2021.

We get a good look at the overall story, with Key and Strong having some relationship issues they’re trying to work through. To that end, they’re on a backpacking trip that ultimately leads them to discover a town that’s “living in a 1940s musical.” As you can imagine, plenty of shenanigans ensue.

Here’s how Apple describes it:

A parody of iconic Golden Age musicals, ‘Schmigadoon!’ stars Strong and Key as a couple on a backpacking trip designed to reinvigorate their relationship who discover a magical town living in a 1940s musical. They then learn that they can’t leave until they find ‘true love.’

Alan Cumming (The Good Wife), Fred Armisen (Portlandia), Kristen Chenoweth (Wicked), Dove Cameron (Descendents), Jaime Camil (Jane the Virgin), and many others are also set to star in the upcoming show as well. There will be six episodes in the first season.

So, now that we get to see it in motion and get a hint of what it will bring to Apple TV+ next month, what do you think? Are you going to be checking this one out?
