‘Greyhound’ and ‘Wolfwalkers’ earn Apple TV+ 2021 BAFTA Award nominations

We’re definitely in awards season for film and TV. And thanks to some great films and shows, Apple TV+ is earning itself plenty of nominations (and wins!). Today offers up even more of the former, with two films getting nominations from the EE British Academy Film Awards.

Today marks Apple TV+’s BAFTA debut, and it’s a big one. Technically, Apple’s video streaming service picked up three nominations this year. However, only two films were part of the process. First up, the hit animated film Wolfwalkers from directors Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart and studio Cartoon Saloon, which earned a nomination for Animated Film.

Next, Greyhound, which was written by and stars Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump). This year’s BAFTA Awards nominated that World War II-themed film for Special Visual Effects and Sound.

From today’s announcement:

Apple Original Films’ broadly acclaimed ‘Wolfwalkers’ was nominated for Animated Film, and hit feature ‘Greyhound,’ starring and written by Tom Hanks, was nominated for Special Visual Effects and Sound by the EE British Academy Film Awards, marking Apple’s BAFTA debut with multiple recognitions.

Apple TV+ has been raking in nominations this month. Wolfwalkers has earned quite a few of those, too. Other nominated entries in Apple TV+’s library include Amazing Stories, For All Mankind, and Servant with Saturn Awards; and Stillwater and Wolfwalkers for Annie Awards nominations. And Ted Lasso earned itself Critics Choice Awards nominations — and won all three.

Good news for Apple and Apple TV+, to be sure.
