Apple’s rumored AirTags may finally launch in the second half of October along with iPhone 12

Apple's rumored Tile-like accessory discovered in iOS 13

We know Apple is delaying the iPhone 12 launch a little bit. And a new rumor aims to lock down a time table for when we might expect the new smartphones and a new accessory.

According to a report from Mac Otakara, Apple is working on launching its item tracking accessory (and Tile competitor), AirTags, before the end of October of this year. The report says that the AirTags will make their debut alongside the new iPhone 12, as far as availability is concerned. Interestingly, this report indicates Apple’s iPhone 12 event will take place in October as well.

Per the translated report:

According to Chinese supplier information, Apple seems to be preparing to announce the loss prevention tag “Air Tag” at the online event of iPhone 12 series, Apple Watch Series 6 scheduled to be held in the latter half of October 2020.

There had been plenty of reports earlier this year suggesting AirTags would launch in March. And, indeed, this report echoes that sentiment. However, Apple made the decision to delay the announcement possibly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This report also states that AirTags will more than likely work with the new App Clips feature baked into iOS 14. The details in this case are a bit muddled, though.

This report is based on supplier information, so nothing is set in stone. The part about Apple debuting AirTags along with the iPhone 12 lineup could certainly be true, but it’s possible Apple will still host an event in September. Apple did potentially tease such a thing earlier this month.

Either way, it’s about time to start getting excited for new Apple products. If Apple does launch the AirTags accessory, will you be picking some up?
