The unc0ver jailbreak is about to be updated to version 5.0.0 with official support for all devices that can run iOS and iPadOS 13.5, and in a silent and rather unexpected undercut, the checkra1n team released v0.10.2 beta of its bootrom exploit-based jailbreak tool for macOS Saturday evening with official support for iOS and iPadOS 13.5.

According to the release notes for the updated version of the checkra1n jailbreak, v0.10.2 not only adds support for Apple’s latest mobile firmware versions, but also incorporates a few different bug fixes at that:

What’s new

Bug fixes

– iOS/iPadOS 13.5 support.
– Fix multiple issues with kernel patches that caused devices to not boot, most notably iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4.
– Fix bootstrap upload not working if the device is locked.

It’s worth noting that this is still a beta release and that it’s only available for macOS and Linux at this time. A Windows version of checkra1n is not yet available, and we don’t yet know when it will be. Fortunately, checkra1n can be deployed from an Android device or with a special portable Ra1nbox device.

As always, anyone using an earlier version of the checkra1n jailbreak is advised to download and deploy the latest version at their earliest convenience to take advantage of the latest bug fixes and stability improvements. Notably, you could also update your checkra1n-compatible device to iOS or iPadOS 13.5 to take advantage of the latest Apple-centric improvements as well.

Like with previous releases, the latest version of checkra1n can be downloaded for free from the official checkra.in website. Moreover, you can take advantage of our step-by-step tutorial for jailbreaking with checkra1n if you’ve never used the tool before or need help using it.

As different is the checkra1n jailbreak is from semi-untethered variants like unc0ver, it’s worth noting that the two can run on the same device so that you can at least get back to a jailbroken state without a computer if you ever find yourself having to reboot your handset.

Have you jailbroken iOS or iPadOS 13.5 with checkra1n v0.10.2 yet, or will you be using unc0ver v5.0.0 when it gets released? Let us know in the comments section below.
