Apple Music surpasses 60 million paid subscribers

Apple Music is on the way up in terms of subscriber count, and has been ever since its debut years ago. The company behind the music streaming service has just confirmed another big milestone, as far as subscribers are concerned.

French site Numerama has the confirmation from Apple’s own Eddy Cue that Apple Music has surpassed 60 million paid subscribers globally, with the news being surfaced by Music Business Worldwide today. Cue had some other tidbits to add, saying that, overall, he is happy with Apple Music’s subscriber count up to this point.

What about Beats 1? Well, Cue also confirmed the online radio station has “tens of millions” of listeners on a regular basis, which is certainly good news for Apple.

Cue went on to say that Apple is continuously working on “perfecting” Apple Music as a platform across the various platforms it’s available on. However, the executive wouldn’t actually go into any detail on what that means.

However, we do know that Apple Music with iOS 13 (and tvOS 13) will support new features like time-synced lyrics, which could make the platform a welcomed one for karaoke parties. What’s interesting about this, is that Cue says Apple employees input the lyrics themselves, rather than relying on a third-party to handle the workload.

For those keeping track, Apple last commented on the number of Apple Music subscribers back in January of this year, saying the service had over 50 million customers. However, we have to compare that to the primary competition in Spotify, which, as of April of this year, surpassed 100 million paid subscribers.

So while Apple Music is certainly picking up the numbers, it does have a long way to go.

Did you switch away from Spotify to use Apple Music, or vice versa?
