Learn how to activate permanent Dark Mode for the X app and website on your iPhone, Android phone, or Mac if you prefer it over normal Light Mode.
Turning on Dark Mode, Dark Appearance, or Dark theme on your iPhone, Android phone, and Mac should automatically affect the X app, and everything there should appear with a black or dark background.
This is because, by default, the X app on iOS & Android and x.com in web browsers like Safari and Chrome is set to honor the system Dark Mode settings. So, if you turn Dark Mode on or off for your phone or computer, it reflects on X.
But if you want to always use X in Dark Mode, even when your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Android phone is in Light Mode, then follow the steps below.
Use X permanently in Dark Mode
Here are the steps for both the X app and website.
- Open the X app and tap your profile icon from the top.
- Tap the sun icon in the lower left corner of the screen.
- Turn on Dark mode.
- Then, select the blue-ish Dim or the black-out Lights out theme.
If you’re on a computer, follow these steps instead:
- Visit x.com and click More > Settings and privacy > Accessibility, display and languages > Display. Or, simply click this direct link: x.com/settings/display
- Select the Dim or Lights out theme.
Moving forward, the X app or website will be in Dark Mode even when your device isn’t.
