RedSn0w updated to support iOS 5.0.1 build 9A406

Yesterday, the Dev Team released one of the biggest updates to their RedSn0w utility in recent memory. The new version included a feature that allows A5 device owners to downgrade their firmware to one that is jailbreakable.

But those with an iPhone 4S who only had SHSH blobs saved from iOS 5.0.1 (build 9A406) haven't been able to use the new feature to downgrade. Until now. RedSn0w 0.9.11b2 brings support for the forgotten firmware...

Rumor: iOS 6 code-named Sundance, could bring third-party Siri support

Rumors regarding the next major version of Apple's mobile operating system have really picked up over the past few days. And considering that WWDC is now less than a month away, that's really not surprising.

You see, Apple is expected to show off iOS 6 (or at least a preview of it) during its Developer Conference next month. And everyone in the tech world is trying to guess what new features it will bring...

Touchtype is a Kickstarter-powered case for your iPad and Apple keyboard

We've already admitted to being unabashed fans of Kickstarter here at iDB. What's not to like? It's a great way for inventors and designers to get their ideas into the hands of users when they don't have the means to set up shop on their own. If the product in question is something that is truly unique and a sleeper hit, then we see something truly magical and the project gets funded almost instantly.

The Touchtype iPad case is one such situation.

Another iPad case, you say? We've all got cases already, we don't need another. Well, that's possibly true. But what about an iPad-cum-keyboard case that actually works? Things just got interesting...

iPhone 5 not yet finalized but still set for October release

With the iPhone 5, next iPhone or whatever moniker Apple decides to give the next generation smartphone set to be released later this year, much of the discussion of late has centered around what that release will see brought to the table.

To date, for example, all iPhones have featured a 3.5-inch display while the Android-powered competition has seen huge variation in display sizes and technology over the last 48 months. Could the iPhone 5 see a new form factor, complete with new screen size? While possible, the suggestion now is that the intricacies of the iPhone 5 have yet to be finalized at Apple with less than six months to go until the handset is expected to begin shipping.

The latest claims come from iMore, whose sources appear to be confident that October is still the month we will be lining up outside our local Apple Stores, even if Apple itself doesn't quite know what the thing we are buying will look like...

How to downgrade an iPhone 4S or iPad 2 on Windows

We love our Windows readers and viewers, and to prove it we've created a video tutorial that shows you how to downgrade an iPhone 4S or iPad 2 using RedSn0w 0.9.11b1 on Windows.

The process is basically the same as what we showed you with the Mac version of RedSn0w, but this time around we downgraded an iPhone 4S instead of an iPad 2. The iPad 2, iPhone 4S and the New iPad — all being A5 devices — can be downgraded using this method....

AllThingsD confirms Apple will use its own mapping system in iOS 6

Earlier this morning, 9to5Mac reported that the next major release of iOS, expected to debut at WWDC next month, will include a completely redesigned Maps application. The report explained that this would be one of iOS 6's major new features.

While the site certainly has some credibility in the world of Apple rumors, it's always nice to get some corroboration from other sources. And we've just received that, from AllThingsD's Apple guru John Packzkowski...

Seas0nPass 0.8.4 released with support for iOS 5.0.1 (5.1.1)

Today has been a great day for jailbreakers. Earlier this morning we saw the release of RedSn0w 0.9.11b1 bring the ability to downgrade the firmware of A5 devices, and now a new version of Seas0nPass has become available.

For those who aren't familiar with the software, Seas0nPass is essentially the equivalent of RedSn0w for the Apple TV. And with version 0.8.4, you can now jailbreak your second-generation ATV on the latest firmware...

How to jailbreak the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 with RedSn0w

Now that a method exists for downgrading A5 devices, a greater number of folks will be looking for an easy solution to jailbreak their devices.

While the Absinthe jailbreak tool still works, RedSn0w may be more desirable to you due to its all encompassing nature.

For that reason we've put together a handy guide that shows you how to jailbreak your iPhone 4S and iPad 2 using RedSn0w 0.9.11b1...

Apple bringing Reminders and Notes web apps to iCloud?

Are you a developer? Have you visited the iCloud.com beta login page recently? In case you missed it, two new icons appeared at a beta login page for iCloud.com briefly before Apple took the beta page down. This clearly suggests Apple is working on bringing Notes and Reminders web apps to iCloud.

Folks also discovered references to an upcoming iOS 6 beta in the code strings for this iCloud beta page.

As we told you last week, Apple could be bringing iOS and Mac Notifications to the iCloud website. So it all makes sense now: Reminders and Notes apps, which are now available on iOS devices and are coming to Macs with Mountain Lion installed later this summer, will also be replicated on the iCloud web site along with web notifications.

Let's hope Apple will take the resulting notifications conundrum seriously...

Apple tells court Samsung ruined evidence

In an ongoing legal fray, Apple dealt another blow to Samsung, its key supplier of NAND flash chips, displays and processors for iPhones and iPads.

The iPhone maker has accused the international conglomerate of purposefully destroying documents that would have been advantageous to Apple's position.

Apple now wants the judge to instruct the jury as follows...

pod2g confirms that the upcoming A5 jailbreak works with iOS 5.1.1

And the good news just keeps rolling in... hot of the heels of pod2g's new iPad (iPad 3) untethered jailbreak video, he's now confirming that his jailbreak works with Apple's newly released iOS 5.1.1 firmware as well.

This means that anyone who buys a new iPad, iPhone 4S, or iPad 2 with 5.1.1 pre-installed, or anyone who accidentally updated to iOS 5.1.1 without saving their SHSH blobs will still be able to jailbreak once the tool is released...
