pod2g: we already have a part of the jailbreak for iOS 6

In case you live under a rock, you have probably figured out by now that the long anticipated iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak was released earlier today. This jailbreak is a common effort of several high profile iOS hacker, but we can all agree to admit that pod2g was the leading force behind Absinthe.

In an interview that took place a few hours ago, pod2g revealed an important fact about Apple's next mobile OS. According to pod2g, the team is already one step ahead of Apple and has the necessary pieces to work on a jailbreak for iOS 6...

Absinthe 2.0.1 now available to address bugs [Updated]

The Chronic Dev Team just pushed Absinthe 2.0.1 for Mac, Windows, and Linux. This release contains fixes for a small subset of bugs.

According to @pimskeks, version 2.0.1 is for "fixing a hang that could occur in certain situations."

It's advisable that you download the latest version of Absinthe from our downloads page if you plan on jailbreaking your iOS 5.1.1 device...

App Store launches Free App of the Week and Editors’ Choice promos

Not to be outdone by indie devs' massive game sale, Apple has launched a pair of prominently advertised promotions on both the App Store and the Mac App Store, in time for your extended Memorial Day weekend. How to run Absinthe 2.0 on OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion

It has been brought to our attention that Absinthe 2.0 doesn't work normally on OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. When you click on the app icon to open it, nothing happens, and the Absinthe interface doesn't load. That's not entirely a surprise considering that Mountain Lion is still in beta, but more than a few of you have expressed troubles with the issue.

Likely, this was just an oversight by the hard working folks behind the Chronic Dev Team, and it will probably be fixed in an updated version of Absinthe. Autodesk debuts SketchBook Ink for iPad, we go hands-on

There's certainly no shortage of high-quality drawing apps on the App Store, especially for the iPad whose spacious canvas begs to be drawn on.

SketchBook Ink for iPad, a new pen & ink drawing app from Autodesk, has been long anticipated. It's one of the select few third-party apps Apple showcased during the iPad 3 introduction back in March.

Munster: Apple television in December, iPhone 5 in October

Piper Jaffray's resident Apple analyst Gene Munster is certainly the biggest proponent of a full-blown Apple television set and I guess you could say he's actually started the whole craze in the first place.

It's been a while since we last heard from him, but now Munster's back with some updates to both iTV and iPhone 5 memes.

He sees an Apple-branded television debuting in December of this year and hitting store shelves in 2013 (hopefully, it won't be a “terrible use of retail space”).

As for a sixth-generation iPhone, or the iPhone 5 as the press dubbed it, he agrees on the general consensus of an October timeframe, which also jives well with what iMore recently heard from sources, too...

iPhone Dev Team releases CLI tool for Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 Untether

The iPhone Dev Team has released a command line interface tool (CLI) as an alternative for the Absinthe 2.0 untethered iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak. The CLI tool is capable of performing the exact same jailbreak that can be accomplished with Absinthe 2.0, but the difference is that it's completely command line based.

The CLI tool is for more advanced users who prefer to have more control over the jailbreak process. We recommend that you stick with the Absinthe 2.0 GUI tool, but it's nice to know that a CLI tool exists if you happen to be a more advanced user.

If you can remember, the Dev Team provided a CLI tool as an alternative to the previous version of Absinthe for the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak as well. It's safe to assume that you can expect a similar experience to that of the previous CLI release.

Seas0nPass iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak released for Apple TV

Hot on the heels of the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak release earlier today, Seas0nPass has been updated to bring support for the second generation Apple TV iOS 5.0.1 (iOS 5.1.1).

This release brings the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak to the Apple TV 2, which up until now could only support a tethered jailbreak. Thanks to the hard work of pod2g and others, we now have a true untethered jailbreak available for the Apple TV's latest firmware...

Cydia reporting HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error

If you're receiving a HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error when trying to download packages in Cydia, don't worry. Practically everyone is getting that error now because Cydia is so incredibly busy now.

It's the whole "drinking from a fire hose" analogy. There's just too much traffic to handle all of the request because of the recently released Absinthe 2.0 jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1...

Fret not Windows users, you can now download Absinthe 2.0 in order to perform an untethered jailbreak on your iOS device running iOS 5.1.1. The procedure is pretty much exactly the same as it was for Mac users, beside a few minor details like running Absinthe as an administrator, and the self extracting zip file. Outside of that, if you can follow the steps from our Mac tutorial, you should be fine to use our Windows tutorial as well.

Microsoft to sell 80-inch Windows 8 ‘tablet’

Seriously, Microsoft has plans to officially sell a whopping 80-inch tablet, their VP has confirmed. This beast of a 'tablet' is powered by Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8 operating system and is currently hung on the wall in CEO Steve Ballmer's office.

It's apparently become Ballmer's whiteboard, email and phone replacement and the company plans to market it for office use initially. No word on pricing or availability yet.

I'd sure love to have such a Minority Report-style display adorn my office walls. The closes thing to this outrageous display in the Apple world? That non-TV TV from Apple that Forrester dreamed up yesterday...

How to convert an iOS 5.1.1 tethered jailbreak to an untethered jailbreak using Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 Untether

If you currently have an A4 device or below that's jailbroken on iOS 5.1.1 using a tethered jailbreak, you can use the new Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 Untether package to convert your tethered jailbreak into an untethered jailbreak.

This is great, because you don't have to perform any sort of restore on your already jailbroken device just to change it into a jailbreak of the untethered variety. Even better is the fact that you can download Rocky Racoon from Cydia, and install it just like you would any other package to accomplish an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1.
