Foo Fighters rock out at iPhone 5 event

It's one thing to get to see the new iPhone 5 announced. But to get to see the new iPhone 5 announced and see Foo Fighters live? Man! Some people get to have all the fun.

It's not exactly "one more thing", but I suppose it's the next best thing.

Meet EarPods, Apple’s new in-ear headphones

It is no secret that Apple's in-ear headphones that ship with iPhones and iPods leave a lot to be desired. Sound quality is average, at best, bass is non-existent and highs sound a little too robotic. Of course, we knew Apple would be introducing a brand new headset today. What we haven't known is that the company spent three years designing the new headphones, dubbed EarPods. Yes, three years...

Today's event isn't just about the new iPhone. Apple's Greg Joswiak is now on stage talking about new iPod products. First up was the all-new iPod nano with bluetooth and multitouch. And now we have a new iPod touch.

This is the fifth-generation of Apple's popular mp3 player, and they've decided to give it a bit of a makeover. At 6.1 mm, it's the thinnest iPod touch Apple has ever made. And it has the same 4-inch display as the new iPhone...

As expected, iTunes has been completely overhauled, and the changes look to be significant.

Taking obvious cues from the mobile space, albums open on the same screen, similar to folders on iOS. Along with the obvious visual differences comes new inline searching, and a mini player, which is sure to enthuse minimalists.

16GB iPhone 4S now just $99, 8GB iPhone 4 is free, 3GS is a goner

As we expected, Apple introduced some new price points for its current iPhone lineup alongside the new iPhone 5. As we just reported, Apple's new handset starts at the usual $199.

This has effectively pushed all of the previous iPhone models down a peg on Apple's list of smartphone models. The 3GS is gone, and the iPhone 4 is now available for free...

iOS 6 launches on September 19

Apple just finished introducing its next iPhone (yeah, they went with the iPhone 5 moniker) by saying that iOS 6 will be released for public consumption on September 19, a week from now and three days before the iPhone 5 is due to hit store shelves. The sixth major revision to Apple's mobile operating system is a free upgrade to owners of the iPhone 3GS/4/4S, fourth-generation iPod touch and iPad 2 and 3. Not all features are supported on all devices so you'll want to check out our handy compatibility matrix..

Now that Apple's executive team has gone down the list of all of the iPhone 5's new features, it's time to get down to the important stuff. In wrapping up the iPhone presentation, Phil schiller announces pricing and availability.

iPhone 5 does FaceTime in HD, detects faces

In addition to the 25 percent thinner and improved iSight camera found on the back of the iPhone 5 (and featuring dynamic low light mode, precision lens alignment and sapphire crystal), Apple bumped up the specs of the front-facing FaceTime camera. It now lets you conduct video calls in high-definition, has a backside illuminated sensor and can detect faces when you snap images. Developing...

And it also has a new and improved audio system. Apple upgraded both the microphones and the speakers in the iPhone 5, giving it new noise canceling features and "wideband" audio...

New smaller iPhone 5 Lightning connector confirmed

Apple officially unveiled its new connector called Lightning today at their iPhone press conference, just as the rumors suggested they would.

The new connector can be plugged in either way for ease of use, it's 80% smaller, and all digital. It'll no doubt compliment the new smaller form factor of the iPhone 5.
