Apple Adds ‘Find My Friends’ to Upcoming iOS 5

It's Apple event time, and the team in Cupertino just announced a new addition to iOS 5 - Find My Friends.

Using the magic of GPS and WiFi triangulation, iOS 5 will now allow friends and family to keep tabs on each other, assuming all the relevant privacy and parental controls are set correctly.

Users can set quiet times, with Foursquare-like checkins telling your friends and loved ones just where you are.

More to come as the event unfolds, and with the iOS 5 release coming next week, we won't have long to wait before we're all keeping tabs on each other from the comfort of our iDevices.

iOS 5 Available to the Public on October 12th

Sprint Image on Apple’s Website 100% Confirms Sprint is a New iPhone Carrier

Welcome, Sprint. It's been a long and arduous journey, but you made it to the promise land; you finally scored the iPhone.

This: image from Apple's online store, confirms that Sprint will be the official third US carrier of the next iPhone.

These are the images that are displayed when asked to select a carrier on Apple's website. See the Verzion and AT&T images for comparison.

Just yesterday, the image wasn't there, but we checked today, and sure enough, there it is. What could this mean for Sprint as a carrier?

Apple Store Goes Down Ahead of Apple’s iPhone Event

So, what will it be? Signs are certainly pointing to an iPhone 4S as being the only new iPhone we'll see this afternoon.

Either way, it's highly probably that we will see some new product hit Apple's online store after the media event concludes.

That's because Apple's online store is currently down, which normally means the ability to order a new product, or at least pre-order a new product, is in the cards...

Dev Team Quietly Updates RedSn0w

Earlier today, the Dev Team quietly updated the jailbreak tool RedSn0w to version 0.9.9b2. This update doesn't bring much to the table but the usual bug fixes and enhancements.

Among those enhancements, RedSn0w 0.9.9b2 brings better firmware detection for the Verizon iPhone, and improves on recovery, stitching, and blob processing...

iPhone 4S to Launch Today, No iPhone 5 This Year

Only hours before Apple's actual announcement, the folks over at The Next Web just dropped the bomb on what Apple has planned for the iPhone today.

According to the site's trusted sources inside Apple, the iPhone 4S will be launched today with a 8 megapixel camera, A5 processor, 1 GB of RAM, "improved optics,” and a “more accurate differential GPS stage." The iPhone 5 'teardrop' design that Apple was rumored to unveil won't be released this year.

London’s Covent Garden Apple Store Gets Transformed for Today’s iPhone Event

The world's biggest Apple store in London has been transformed into a live streaming hall for the UK press to watch Apple's iPhone event today. Apple announced yesterday that it will not be streaming its event for the public, but a private video feed of today's event will be streamed to press members across the pond that are gathered in the Covent Garden retail store.
