Fantastical gains WhatsApp and 1Password integration, new alert sound and more

Fantastical by Flexibits is arguably the most advanced calendar and to-do application on the iPhone - my daily productivity is now dependent on it running on my iOS devices and Macs.

If you're not familiar with the app, it features natural language processing so you can just type in something like 'lunch with Dad in two weeks at Mom's place at 1pm' and it'll automatically create a reminder or an event for you. And yes, it integrates with your iOS Calendar and Reminders database.

Fantastical is even better on the Mac and developers should be praised for keeping their user base loyal by expanding on the feature set with regular refinements and new capabilities. In today's update, now live in the App Store, Fantastical brings out a whole bunch of tweaks and improvements along with a few new features.

Notable highlights include an option to send text messages in WhatsApp, support for opening links in 1Password and the Mercury web browser, a new custom sound they've made for event and reminder notifications and lots more.

Fantastical, Flexibits' popular calendar and to-do application for the iPhone and Mac, received its mandatory iOS 7 refresh two months ago. Though a separate purchase (currently 60 percent off: only $1.99 for a limited time), Fantastical 2 justifies its asking price by managing to build upon the already strong feature set of the original release with its nicely redone interface and a host of new capabilities that help take the way you create, edit and view calendar events on iOS and OS X to the next level.

Fantastical for Mac and iPhone on sale for a limited time

Ok, this is getting a bit out of hand. After the EA sale, and the Disney and Warner Bros. sale, and the App Santa sale, I'm just not sure how many more purchases my wallet can handle. Luckily, I already own two of the three apps we're going to be talking about this morning.

Flexibits released the major new Fantastical 2 version a month ago and already the team has followed up with new features such as additional icon badge options and notifications sounds, available to existing users at no cost by way of a free software update. But why stop there? Exactly!

Fantastical 2, one of the apps that many of us agree is an absolute must have, has been updated with tons of improvements, bug fixes, and optimizations. If you have automatic updates enabled for your iOS device and you already own Fantastical 2, you may have already received the update. Otherwise, you can head over to the App Store to download it now.

Coming in at 16.3 MB, version 2.0.1 of Fantastical 2 adds sound to notifications, brings additional app icon badge options, and lends iPhone 4 users a performance boost. When it comes to third party calendar applications, very few names other than Fantastical come to mind. In a few years, the app has become a staple for anyone looking to improve the way they create, edit, and view calendar events on iOS or on Mac OS X.

Although I was a late adopter of Fantastical for iPhone, the app quickly became one of my essential applications. Not only it allows you to create events in a very efficient and intuitive way, but it also displays those events in a beautiful manner, greatly improving the stock experience provided by Apple.

Along with Tweetbot, Fantastical was one my most anticipated app updates for iOS 7, and I am happy to report today that Fantastical 2 is now available in the App Store, with a brand new iOS 7 look and many new features...

We're pretty big fans of Fantastical here at iDB. Flexibits' powerful, well-designed calendar and todo app has won us over on both the Mac and iPhone. So when we came across this software sale, we just had to pass it on.

I'm a long time fan of Fantastical, a tremendously useful and well-designed calendar and to-do software for the Mac from Flexibits.

Therefore, it goes without saying that I was tingling with expectation after the team had teased an iPhone experience in early-November 2012.

And now, less than three months since its iPhone debut, developers Thursday pushed the first major update. It's a must-have as it addresses a few omissions while expanding on core functionality with some nice enhancements that will admittedly boost your productivity.

These include time zone support, multiple event alerts, even faster natural language parsing, handy user interface tweaks and of course "staggering number of other improvements, parser enhancements, and bug fixes." How to link Fantastical to the stock Calendar app icon

I absolutely love Fantastical. It's a wonderful way to manage my week-to-week activities via my iPhone, and there's a desktop client as well. Fantastical uses "real" language when it comes to adding appointments to your calendar. This means that I can simply type: Dinner with the wife next Wednesday at six, and it knows to setup an appointment on March 13 at 6PM. That's really just the beginning of how useful Fantastical is, but this isn't meant to be a review of Fantastical, this is a tutorial that shows you how to link Fantastical to the stock Calendar app.

As promised, Flexibits today launched Fantastical for the iPhone. The app makes a leap from the Mac, where it's been deemed the most popular calendar software for the platform. And one of its trademark features - the natural-language engine which parses entries, allowing one to just type in full sentences to create events - is now available on the iPhone and is just as effective as on the Mac. And for those that don't like to type, Fantastical also supports dictation so you can speak the details for your event...
