How to hide multiple app icons, no jailbreak required

A while ago we told you about StifleStand — an app for Windows or Mac that allows you to hide Newsstand without the need for a jailbreak.

Now there's another option for hiding Newsstand, along with a host of other default iOS apps. Again, like StifleStand, no jailbreak is needed for this method either.

In the following video walkthrough, we'll provide you with a demonstration of Rag3Hack, a new website dedicated to hiding stock iOS apps on any device, regardless of whether or not the device is jailbroken.

Yesterday we showed you how to hide the maligned Newsstand app using StifleStand — a new Mac app from developer, Filippo Bigarella.

What makes StifleStand special is that it doesn't require a jailbreak in order to use it, which means that it even works with the new iPhone 5. No doubt, hundreds of users who despise Newsstand flocked to the app, but Windows users were sadly left in the cold...that is, until now.

As promised by Bigarella, and as noted by iOS blog ModMyi, a Windows version of StifleStand has been created, and it is now available for download. Check inside for a brief video demonstration of StifleStand for Windows, along with the download link.

How to hide Newsstand on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, no jailbreak required

Although I occasionally use Newsstand, I can plainly see why many deem it to be worthless. Almost all of my friends have Newsstand apps that look just like the screenshot above — empty. With that in mind, wouldn't it be great if Apple didn't force the app upon you?

I mean, it's not even really an app after all, it's a folder, yet Apple forces you to keep it on your Home screen with no way to hide it. Most people who really hate the app, and don't have the luxury of a jailbreak, relegate Newsstand to the last page of their Home screen, but this latest Mac app one-ups that solution.

Like previous tricks that allowed you to place Newsstand in a folder, Filippo Bigarella's StifleStand does something similar. StifleStand, though, is much more easy to execute, because it doesn't require any special timing on your part.

The best thing about StifleStand is that it doesn't require a jailbreak, which makes it entirely possible to hide the Newsstand app on the iPhone 5, or any other iOS device for that matter. Take a look inside as I show off the easy to follow process on video...

Delusional Hearst CEO claims dull print replicas beat interactive e-magazines

Duncan Edwards, the CEO of Hearst Magazines International, was speaking at The World e-Reading Congress in London today. Offering his take on a number of subjects concerning digital magazines and newspapers, Edwards shared candid words for the iPad and Apple’s contributions to mainstreaming e-publications on smartphones and tablets.

Surprisingly, Edwards doesn’t think interactive content is the way to go. Instead, consumers are better served with boring digital replicas of static print content, he said.

I’m not sure I agree. Being a print die-hard, Edwards was probably trying to make the case for a single common denominator concerning digital publishing. After all, creating interactive content tailored for the iPad requires focus on excellence and admittedly costs more compared to simply converting print files using Adobe's Digital Publishing Suite, which also received an update at today's event...

‘Bookstand’ Goes Live on Cydia

We previewed Bookstand — a new tweak that allows you to access iBooks content right from iOS 5's Newsstand — a couple of days ago.

Apple has already revolutionised the way the music industry works with iTunes, and arguably changed the way mobile phone companies work forever. Newsstand is a pre-made folder that provides iOS 5 users with an easy way to access digital subscriptions. But it's a bit annoying for the folks who don't use it, as its icon can't be placed in other folders. Luckily, there's a workaround.

There's a nice little tidbit floating around the web from The Coding Massacre regarding Newsstand. As it turns out, there's a small glitch in iOS that allows you to place the icon in a folder without the need to jailbreak...
