Apple’s self-driving electric car, codenamed Project Titan, is further along than many suspected, reports The Guardian. The publication has obtained documents that show that the Cupertino company is already scouting locations to test the vehicle.

The Guardian’s Mark Harris said the documents were obtained legally under a public records request, and they contain correspondence between Apple engineer Frank Fearon and an employee for top-secret vehicle testing ground GoMentum Station.

“We would… like to get an understanding of timing and availability for the space,” Fearon wrote. “We are hoping to see a presentation on the… testing grounds with a layout, photos, and a description of how the various areas of the grounds could be used.”

GoMentum Station used to be a 2,100-acre naval base near San Francisco, before being turned into a high-security testing ground for autonomous vehicles. Both Mercedes-Benz and Honda have already used the GoMentum campus to test self-driving cars.

Today’s report adds significant weight behind an already heavy narrative that Apple is working on an electric vehicle. The company has recently hired a number of high-profile executives from the auto industry, and is rumored to have met with BMW.

Harris also says The Guardian’s obtained documents confirm that Apple’s automotive team is housed in a low-profile building in Sunnyvale, California. Leased in 2014, the building sits several miles from the iPhone maker’s shiny new Cupertino campus.

lol it will probably look like the apple watch

    • George

      So ugly?

      • Donato Bearint

It’s funny to hear what comments envious people have to say.

      • Learningoffexperience

Lol typical fanboy as soon as someone doesn’t like anything apple they’re envious…..apple watches are ugly that’s why no one has them just like the apple car will be ugly and no one will buy them lmao get over it

      • :D

        Definitely not true sorry kiddo

      • Learningoffexperience

        Naaaaa u butthurt hahahahaha

      • Donato Bearint

Apple sold 3 million watches in a few months but your right no one bought them. Predicted to sell 15-30 million in the first year. Ugly is a matter of opinion, people also think Ferraris are ugly people also thought Picassos were ugly at one time. They also use to think the world was flat. Everyone is entitled to there option no matter how stupid or wrong it is.

      • Learningoffexperience

Lol that’s like .0000002 of the population which means no one got apple watches I live in NYC and have yet to even see someone purchasing or even wearing one. Predicted and sold are two totally different things…..let the butthurt flow through you

      • George Yfantopoulos

Lol dude. 70% of smartwatch sales were from apple watch and u keep saying noone bought them?

      • Donato Bearint

After looking at your math I can see why you’ve never ran into anyone with an apple watch. Maybe the guy with the big cardboard box on the corner will get one first.

      • Donato Bearint

It’s been out for a few months in limited production till now. Your right predicted and and actual are two different things one has happened and one will happen. Well if no one you know has and apple watch that should say enough to about you right there. I can name 5 random people I saw them with just today. Then again I have a career. And apple just started selling them the to other parts of the world this week. So actually that like .01 % of the population. Try your math again almost one percent of the country has apple watches. Give it another month that’s number gets bigger and bigger. Any other point you want to sound stupid about.

      • Benjamin J Schwartz

Really dude, because you “have a career”, you see more than the rest of us? I have a career too, one that actually requires us to wear a watch at all times (I’m a nurse) but I haven’t seen any Apple watches out there. I can certainly afford one, but it’s not that I think they are ugly (which I don’t), rather that Apple (and all the other smart watch makers) has not yet given a convincing argument for why we need these devices. I know why I need my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook, but I don’t see why I need an Apple watch. To clarify, I have no intention of charging the device daily like I do my iPhone, just so I can check HR/RR at work a dozen times a day. That’s just a waste of time and effort. Rather, my Seiko stays in car when not a work, and I always know it’s ready to go.

I’m not envious, I returned mine because it looked like I was wearing a Fischer price toy.

  • Jeff Lengersson

There is no way I would ever get in an Apple car, what with the fiasco that Apple Music has been. I’d ask to be driven to Abbey Road and it would drop me off at Baker Street.

    • why do you compare apple music with apple car

      • M2

It was a joke, albeit a bad one.

  • Micrones

IMO, This is going to be an epic flop, because Apple is successful at iPhone does not mean they can dabble in every industry, Auto Industry is so different and so capital intensive. Apple might have a huge stockpile of cash now doesn’t mean the flow will continue forever. Buying a phone on subsidy is not the same as buying a new car.
personally, i don’t believe they are working on any automobile but i sense it might be an related product.

    • nonchalont

They may make only a select few.

    • :D

If they wanted to, they could buy some of the biggest car manufacturers and just rebrand their cars as Apple Cars, so I don’t see why Apple wouldn’t be successful in another industry if they really wanted to be.

      • Micrones

IF THEY WANTED TO???? you think everything is for sale or possible to purchase easily by Apple!!
You seem to have no idea how international acquisitions work, even if Apple wants to, there is no guarantee BMW or MB will even sell, as most European countries have rules and regulations, just as ATT had awhile ago with US regulators, and even that purchase will not come cheap for Apple which will severely deplete Apple’s stockpile of cash and moreso, Apple has shareholders that might kick against the purchase overall.
Apple isnt the know all and be all of everthing my friend… as evidenced by their operations thus far

      • :D

        Calm down!
Firstly, I said they could – I never said they would. Secondly, I never said anything about MB or BMW. Thirdly, I’m certain that Apple wouldn’t release a car unless it’s actually any good. Apple have a reputation of pristine products to protect. If they need to, they would definitely make some acquisitions – if not for an entire company (probably not even though it is possible as per my first point) then at least for some of the technology that’s already around.

      • Learningoffexperience

        Definitely not sorry kiddo

    • What experience did Tesla have when they started off? Apple is trying new means to use that stockpile. And please don’t compare a phone with a car. ever.
