Apple announces OS X Mavericks

Apple here at WWDC said that Mountain Lion, Apple's ninth release in a decade, is now on 35 percent installed Mac base in just under six months. Taking the stage, Apple's head of Mac software Craig Federighi in a joke aimed at the rumor-mill said that the next release, OS X 10.9, is named Sea Lion.

Not really - Apple would run out of cat names had they hone with the Sea Lion name. Therefore, the company has chosen the naming convention that will take them into the next ten years. Say hello to OS X Mavericks...

Apple invites robotics company Anki onstage to show off new iOS accessory

This is kind of interesting. Halfway through his opening remarks, Tim Cook called up the folks behind a new robotics company called Anki up to the stage to show off an innovative new iOS accessory called AnkiDrive.

Essentially, they are tiny, artificially-controlled race cars. You can choose to play against your friends, or take your chances against the AI.  The promise here is that AnkiDrive will "take iOS gaming to a whole new level."

Tim Cook kicks off WWDC keynote with Apple stats

The moment we've all been waiting for is finally here. Tim Cook has just taken the stage at Apple's 2013 WWDC keynote event, and we are just moments away from seeing what the future is going to look like for Apple and its platforms.

As usual, Cook has kicked things off by offering up a number of stats and other updates regarding Apple's performance over the past year. And as usual, the numbers are pretty impressive. We've collected them for you after the fold...

Black-clad mystery banners spotted ahead of WWDC keynote

With less then an hour until Apple's big keynote, WWDC attendees are now being let inside Moscone West and seated. Indicating it may have a surprise announcement up its sleeve, Apple has covered a few banner inside the building in black cloth. But don't get your hopes up too high, the mystery banners could also advertise a headline new iOS 7 or OS X 10.9 feature rather than a brand new product.

Oh, and we've got a few images showing the other another Steve, Steve Wozniak, showing up at WWDC and driving around on his Segway, God-like light shinning over 1 Infinite Loop and more...

Apple will live stream WWDC to Apple TV, iOS, and its website

Great news for those not standing in line at Moscone West right now: Apple will live stream the entire WWDC keynote via the Apple TV.

This really is awesome news, and it's a huge treat for those of us who own an Apple TV. In fact if you check your device right now, you should see the official WWDC app on the Home screen.

iOS 7 icons and other details leak ahead of Apple’s WWDC keynote

Spoiler alert! For folks who don't want to ruin the surprises Apple has in store for us tomorrow, I recommend you stop reading now. The folks over at 9to5Mac say they've just been given a sneak peek at an early beta of iOS 7, and have described it in detail.

Contrary to a report from earlier today, it sounds like most of what we've heard about the next version of iOS is spot on. The entire UI has been completely redesigned with flat icons and other elements, and a new, Helvetica Nueue Ultra Light-like font...

A look back at WWDC banners over the past 11 years

Tomorrow morning, Tim Cook and company will take the stage for Apple's annual WWDC keynote. And looking at the recently hung banners, they'll use at least part of the event to show off a new version of OS X and a redesigned iOS 7.

The banners have become a staple at the Conference, offering up subtle clues and not-so-subtle clues of what's to come. And with that in mind, as we prepare for a big day tomorrow, here's a look at the WWDC banners from the last decade...

iDB is ready for WWDC tomorrow, are you?

In case you haven’t picked up on it yet, tomorrow is a huge day for Apple. Not only is it the first day of WWDC, but the Cupertino company will also be giving a keynote speech in which it's expected to make a number of announcements.

As presumed, there won’t be a live video stream of tomorrow’s media event. And a clip of the keynote won’t likely be available until hours after it’s over. But never fear, iDB will be here all day providing you with coverage and commentary...

Gruber: all the iOS 7 leaks are wrong

During this week's episode of The Talk Show podcast, well known Apple dot connector and author of the popular blog Daring Fireball John Gruber offered up a few tidbits he's heard about what Apple may unveil at its WWDC keynote tomorrow.

While he notes that he has heard very little about what Apple has in store for this year, Gruber says that he has heard from somebody who is familiar with the company's plans that "all of the leaks are wrong" in regards to iOS 7...

7 features from jailbreak tweaks we could see in iOS 7

Now just a few days away from WWDC, excitement among Apple fans is at its climax. From predictions to speculations to wish lists, we're all trying to chime in on what Apple might unveil on Monday, and more specifically, what iOS 7 will hold for us.

There are a few details that appear to be set in stone. Namely, iOS is believed to have been flattened by design guru Jony Ive and his collaborators. Besides the visual make over, we're certain that iOS 7 will also bring new feature to the table, and if history gives us any hindsight, Apple's new mobile operating system might draw some inspiration from the jailbreak community once again.

In this post, I will detail a few features from various jailbreak tweaks that Apple should could implement in iOS 7...

Celebrate WWDC with these gorgeous iOS 7 wallpapers

If you follow the jailbreak community closely or happen to be an avid iDB reader, you are sure (pun intended) to have heard of Surenix. He is quite the well-renowned graphic artist, having worked on recently popular tweaks, such as Atom and MiniPlayer, and developing the Evasi0n logo for the Evad3rs jailbreak team.

Earlier today, we were able to see photographs of the newly hung banners at the Moscone Center in San Francisco for the upcoming WWDC conference. The graphics are simplistic and flat, which correlates nicely with rumors that iOS 7 will change after the crowning of Jony Ive as the new SVP responsible for both software and hardware enhancements.

After these banners were highlighted through the blogosphere, Surenix picked up the design and has released iOS device wallpapers for everyone to enjoy...

iOS 7 and OS X logos go up at Moscone West

Apple yesterday started dressing up the Moscone West building ahead of Monday's keynote. The banners depicting flat icons hint at the iOS 7 redesign while revealing the conference slogan: "Where a whole new world is developing".

Numerous photographs of both the interior and exterior have arrived since and today we capture a glimpse of what looks like the official iOS 7 logo.

Unlike past graphics-heavy iOS logos, the newly revealed signage outside San Francisco's Moscone West depicts an elegant and very thin "7" against the white background. As you could imagine, it oozes minimalism and stylishness, which are said to be key themes behind the major iOS 7 overhaul.

Yes, 7 could mean anything and yes, we're pretty sure Apple meant iOS 7...
