Must Watch: Steve Jobs Talks About Branding

I think this is a must-watch video of Steve Jobs talking about branding and where Apple should stand. I'm not sure when this video was recorded, but I'm glad Steve didn't do about speech about clothing. I mean look at these shorts, man, that's wild! At any rates, this is the essence of Apple.

Netflix Comes to The iPhone

Remember back at the WWDC when Steve Jobs talked about Netflix coming to the iPhone this summer? It turns out they met their deadline because the recent update is up in the App Store and includes iPhone and iPod Touch support. Highlighted in the apps description is the following:

Upload HD Video From Your iPhone With 720tube

Apple is infamous for creating amazing devices that have one too many steps involved in utilizing them fully. The video camera on the iPhone 4 is a great example of this. Uploading HD video to YouTube was a hassle to master. Not anymore  because 720tube lets you do just that.

You choose your video from your camera roll and login to YouTube both from within the app. Then just add a title, description and other information about the clip like you normally would. Upload and enjoy...

Movies Rented on The iPhone 4 Can’t Be Transferred Back to iTunes

iLounge reveals a bit of discerning information that took a mysterious amount of time to surface. It turns out that the iPhone 4 shares the same limitations as the iPad and the Apple TV in regards to being unable to transfer rented movies back to your iTunes library.

The ability to move rentals had never been a problem before when renting on previous iPhone models. An excerpt from the iPhone iOS 4 User Guide briefly mentions the limitation on page 99, and it reads as such:

Man Watches His House Get Robbed on His iPhone

Vincent Hunter was visiting relatives in Connecticut when his iPhone sounded an alert that his motion detectors were going haywire in his Dallas home.

When he opened the app on his iPhone he witnessed two burglars attempting to break an entering as he dialed 911.

iCam was the application he had installed on his phone, which is available in the App Store for $4.99. The app allows you to stream live video to your iPhone from up to 4 different webcams.

Spice Up Your iPhone Background Image With Video Wallpapers

There is a new mod in town. Its name is vWallpaper and it's an awesome jailbreak app that will bring video wallpaper to your iPhone homescreen. Redmond Pie has a video of it in action and I have to admit it's pretty impressive.

vWallpaper comes pre-loaded with a few video wallpapers but you can also download some new ones from within the application. Really neat!

Justin “I’m a Mac” Long Has a Jailbroken iPhone

In what might be the biggest exposure Cydia has ever gotten, Justin Long showed off his jailbroken iPhone on Jimmy Kimmel Live Wednesday night. Long appeared before in a series of Apple commercials where he played "Mac" in the Mac vs. PC ads running from 2006 to 2009. The jailbroken app featured was TVOutTuner (available in the Cydia Store) which allows a user to display the content on their iPhone screen to their TV.

While no mention of Cydia (however at the end you can see the icon clearly) exists in the clip, the ability to display your phone's screen is not permitted by any of Apple's approved applications.

The once Apple spokesman showcased a series of text messages that were sent by an obvious teenager who had the wrong number. Justin played along with the youngster (apparently for months) by replying with assorted responses where he imitated the mangling of language. The clip goes on for 7 minutes but is a hilarious watch. Aside from good material, viewing the video will make a non-jailbreaker think twice about their stock device. Trust me.

Like many of your probably know, The U.S. Liberty of Congress declared you can legally jailbreak your iDevices. However the hacking and downloading of applications not approved by Apple could result in voiding your warranty. At least that's what Apple says.

Sony Fires a Shot at the iPhone Gaming Ability

It seems as if someone at Sony feels threatened by the iPhone and its ability as a gaming device. I'm not sure why since it's quite obvious that the device isn't the first toy you think of when you hear about "serious gaming".

Nevertheless Sony has released a PSP commercial taking shots at what is obviously supposed to be an iPhone game. Kevin Butler (whose supposed iPhone has a game titled 'Lame Castle' on its screen) and young Marcus Rivers are featured in what is actually a pretty funny clip. Rivers tells Butler  that his phone is for "texting your grandma and calling your girl" and that it can't handle "big boy games".

Engadget has the full video that informs us that the PSP has games as low as $9.99. It's an amusing little clip but why Sony feels the need to compare its PSP to the iPhone games is a bit bewildering.

I don't know about you but when I play a game on my iPhone, it is usually to just pass time here and there. Never have I considered it to be a gamer's device of choice. Is this just friendly banter from Sony or a bit of desperation? Give us your opinion in the comments right after you text your grandma.
