‘PocketMode’ Conveniently Boosts Your iPhone’s Ringer While It’s In Your Pocket

How many times have you found yourself missing an important call because you simply didn't hear it in the depths of your cavernous pockets or bag?

I've encountered that situation quite a few times myself, and unfortunately it led to me missing a few very important phone calls.

PocketMode is a new jailbreak tweak available on Cydia that aims to work around this issue by strategically putting your iPhone's ambient light sensor to good use.

‘iNetUsage’ Makes it Easy to Discern Which Apps Are Data Hogs

Are you having problems with phantom data charges on your wireless bill? Interested in which apps are causing you to always go over your data cap? If so, I have the perfect jailbreak tweak for you.

It's called iNetUsage, and it is a tweak available on Cydia that allows you to monitor your data usage on an app-to-app basis.

There's even a provision to break it down over Wi-Fi and cellular usage, along with setting up specific data ranges for your analysis.

The Art of Deception, Told By the iPod Touch

Videos like this remind us how "magical" Apple's products really are. If you've haven't seen a good magic act in awhile, you'll appreciate this presentation called, "iPod Magic - Deceptions."

Marco Tempest, or "The Virtual Magician," shows off some of his handiwork with a few iPod touches. It's not your typical set of magic tricks, and the whole presentation has an interesting message as well...

New in iOS 5: High Quality YouTube Playback

In case you were wondering if folks were done uncovering new features in iOS 5, think again. Out of the 200 new features Apple has added to iOS, I believe we are on like #70 or so.

The latest find comes from iDevice hackers @Chronic and @Sonny Dickson, who have managed to gain access to internal settings in iOS 5. Apparently the new iOS will not only offer FaceTime over 3G, but high quality YouTube playback as well...

1080p Video Playback Finally Coming in iOS 5

An interesting tidbit has been uncovered in the iOS 5 beta relating to HD video playback. It appears that iDevices will finally be able to playback HD video at a full, 1080p resolution.

Specifically, the iPad 2 has been confirmed to have the ability to playback full, 1080p video in the Videos app. In the past, iTunes wouldn't even allow the syncing of 1080p video to an iDevice.

Speed Test: iOS 5 vs iOS 4.3.3

So I've been playing with iOS 5 beta 1 on my iPhone 3GS for a couple of days now and my first impression is that it looks really good. Good enough to make me consider giving up my jailbreak and unlock to install iOS 5 on my iPhone 4 - don't worry, I won't.

One thing I've noticed about Apple's latest beta is that it is a little sluggish. I know an iPhone 3GS isn't the ideal device to test a new OS on, so I thought I'd put it to the test against the same device, but on the current iOS 4.3.3...

FaceTime to Go 3G in iOS 5, Carrier-Pending of Course

I'm sure most of you have seen the T-Mobile commercials that poke fun at the iPhone 4's inability to make video calls outside of a Wi-Fi area. The tagline at the end of the ads is always "Introducing the new T-Mobile MyTouch 4G, video chat without needing Wi-Fi."

Although the commercials don't account for services like Skype or jailbreakers using the My3G utility, they are otherwise spot-on. Apple's popular FaceTime video chat service has been restricted to Wi-Fi usage since its inception last year, but that could all change in iOS 5...

Upcoming Hamburg Apple Store Has A Change Of Heart, Turns To Windows

Apple's iconic Apple Stores are known around the world, so much so that they stand out on the crowed streets even while they're still under construction. Shrouded in black, there is no doubting when an Apple retail location is in the process of being put together behind closed doors.

That is, unless it has a great big Microsoft Windows logo stuck to the side of it...
