aTV Flash Black Officially Released for Apple TV 2

aTV Flash Black, the software solution that adds a multitude of new features to a jailbroken Apple TV 2, finally released yesterday after many moons in beta testing.

The 1.0 release is pretty much the same as the version we showed you not too long ago, though there are a few changes that have been added since then.

If you have an Apple TV 2, aTV Flash Black is the surest way to get the most bang for your buck out of Apple's self proclaimed "hobby" device...

Kindle Fire vs iPad 2: Bootup Times, Web Browsing, and Netflix Streaming

I finally acquired my highly anticipated Kindle Fire this morning, and I've been putting it through its paces all day long.

It's a decent first attempt by Amazon, and it has tons of potential, but it still suffers from the fact that it's a first generation device.

Even still, we thought it only appropriate to compare Apple's latest tablet to Kindle Fire. How does the iPad 2 stack up to Amazon's debut entry into the tablet race? Check out the interesting — yet ultimately unscientific — video comparison inside...

iPad Survives 1300ft Drop From a Parachute Just For Kicks, and Advertising

In a novel publicity stunt, device case maker G-Form has thrown an iPad from the nose bleed-inducing height of 1300 feet.

In order to prove just how strong the company's iPad case really is, G-Form decided to drop one from a parachuting daredevil while a video plays on it, just for effect. As is predictably the case, if you'll pardon the pun, the iPad survives the fall, though it is fair to say that the case itself has seen better days...

biteSMS Adds New Quick Compose Feature in Notification Center

The latest version of biteSMS is shaping up to be something special. The team has worked hard for months, issuing beta after beta to get version 6 of our favorite jailbreak messaging client just right for iOS 5.

We already covered some of biteSMS' upcoming new features before, but this time around we're focusing exclusively on one feature in particular — quick compose from Notification Center.

IntelliScreenX has it, and now the biteSMS team has it as well. Check inside for a full video walkthrough of the new quick compose elements of biteSMS...

How to Open the App Switcher From Your Lock Screen

Multitasking on the Lock screen you say? Indeed. LockScreen Multitasking is a new jailbreak tweak that allows you to launch your iPhone's App Switcher directly from the Lock screen.

This makes it possible to launch apps, and enjoy the other features contained in your device's App Switcher without even unlocking it...

SuperScroller: Page Up and Page Down Using Activator Actions

SuperScroller is a jailbreak tweak from Ryan Petrich that allows you to scroll up or down using an assigned Activator action.

Many viewers are questioning the tweak's usefulness on our YouTube channel, but I could certainly see someone using SuperScroller as their preferred method of page navigation; for instance, when reading.

Check out the video walkthrough inside, and judge for yourselves...

How to Tweet Your Current Song Using iOS 5’s Built in Twitter Integration

TweetSong is a jailbreak tweak for iOS 5 that makes it easy to tweet out your #nowplaying song using iOS 5's built in Twitter integration.

It works by assigning an Activator action to pull in the current playing song from your music app, placing it conveniently into the body of your tweet.

If you're curious to see TweetSong in action, check out our video walkthrough inside...

The Dog Who Hates the iPhone

Today is going to be a slow news day, and because I know most of you would rather be home than at work, I thought it'd be nice to entertain you with a pointless YouTube video.

This is the story of Coco, a pug that really, really, really hates the iPhone. But I won't tell you more than that. Just watch the video to see a true Android fandog in action...

Siri Mind Control Hack Proven to be Fake

We recently told you about Project Black Mirror, a seemingly-ambitious attempt to control the iPhone's Siri technology with only mind waves. When we watched the original video of the project demonstration, we all — including the rest of the internet — got excited about the possibility of futuristic mind control.

It appears that the "hackers" behind Project Black Mirror were only controlling all of our minds, not Siri's. Several sites are now reporting that the project is fake...

WeeSearch Pro: Search Google and Create Custom Search Queries Right From Notification Center

When we used the basic version of WeeSearch, we came a way a little less than impressed. While the pro version of WeeSearch isn't perfect, it's a lot better than its predecessor.

With WeeSearch Pro you can search a variety of built-in search engines. If that doesn't suit your fancy, you can even add your own custom search queries.

The great thing about WeeSearch Pro is that you can do all of this without ever leaving the comfortable confines of iOS 5's Notification Center...

How to Create Custom Shortcuts For WiFi Settings, Airplane Mode, and More – No Jailbreak Required

It's going on a month since the iPhone 4S made its initial debut, and we're still without a jailbreak. Not that we're complaining; we never expected a jailbreak for the 4S to be released this soon anyway.

Still, it's hard giving up some of the luxuries that jailbreaking brings to the for — namely SBSettings toggles to quickly enable and disable certain low-level functions like WiFi, Bluetooth, Airplane mode, etc.

Fortunately, there is a compromise. We've briefly touched on it before, but in this article and video walkthrough we'll show you how to create custom shortcuts to your favorite settings; no jailbreak required...

More Lines in Notification Center: Read Entire Messages Directly From Notification Center

By default, Notification Center only displays 4 lines of text in any of your messages. This is okay, but for longer messages like email, it forces you to open the message to read its entire contents.

With More Lines in Notification Center, a jailbreak tweak available on Cydia, you can display up to 12 lines of text at a time, which is usually enough to read the body of an entire (moderately sized) email or text message...
