TinyUmbrella updated with support for iOS 6.1.2

In light of Apple releasing iOS 6.1.2 last week, notcom has seeded a new version of his TinyUmbrella app. The popular SHSH blob-saving tool now supports all versions of iOS, excluding 6.1.3, which is still in beta.

That beta, though, is already causing waves in the jailbreak community. Evidence has been found in the firmware that Apple is patching evasi0n's exploits, which makes this TinyUmbrella extremely important...

Spotify redoes iOS app, squashes Lock screen bug

Not to be outdone by Amazon's new Cloud Player app and Apple's roll-out of iTunes in the Cloud in a dozen European markets, Spotify, the popular Swedish music streaming startup, has revamped its iPhone and iPad client with a brand new interface and a handful of fixes, most notably squashing the annoying bug (no, not that one) which displayed the wrong track on the Lock screen...

Amazon fixes Kindle iOS bug that could wipe your book library

In addition to refreshing its Cloud Player software with a brand new iPad interface and other features, online retailer Amazon last night pushed an update to its Kindle client for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

Hopefully you haven't had a chance to hit the Update button yet, because Kindle version 3.6.1 for iOS has a nasty bug which will delete your entire book library on your device. Of course, all your purchases are still safely available in the Amazon cloud.

The company has acknowledged as much in the app's release notes on iTunes. "There is a known issue with this update," the note reads. "If you are an existing Kindle for iOS user, we recommend you do not install the update at this time". There, you have been warned. The company issued a statement confirming that it's come up with a fix and a new version is underway.

UPDATE: Kindle version 3.6.2 has just gone live on the App Store, fixing the account deregistering glitch...

XBMC for Apple TV now compatible with iOS 6.1 (5.2)

Shortly after the release of the iOS 6.x jailbreak tool evasi0n, FireCore rolled out a new version of its Seas0nPass utility to support the latest firmware. Folks with a second-gen ATV on iOS 6.1 (5.2) can now enjoy an untethered jailbreak.

Up until now, though, most people (including myself) have been reluctant to upgrade to the new software because many Apple TV apps still don't support it. But you'll be happy to hear that XBMC has just taken its name off of that list...

Apple releases iOS 6.1.3 beta 2 to developers

Believe it or not, Apple has seeded a beta for another iOS update to developers today. The company has already issue two software updates, 6.1.1 and 6.1.2, in as many weeks, and only released iOS 6.1 three weeks ago.

Today's developer software is marked as iOS 6.1.3 beta 2. The first beta was actually sent out earlier this month, known as iOS 6.1.1 beta 1, but it's been renamed to iOS 6.1.3 due to the recent iOS bug-fixing updates...

Petition to legalize cell phone unlocking will get response from White House

On January 26th of this year, the DMCA exemption that made unlocking your cell phone legal, expired, subsequently making the popular practice illegal. Now, folks who go about unlocking their handsets risk serious legal repercussions.

Obviously, people weren't too happy with the way this played out, so an online petition was started to re-legalize unlocking. And as of today, that petition has surpassed 100,000 signatures, meaning the White House must issue a response...
