Popular RSS service Feedly has posted an update for its iOS app, bringing the client to version 24.0. The update brings about support for the higher resolution displays of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, as well as the ability to tag articles in-app.
Both of these changes are welcomed improvements, considering the larger iPhones have been out for more than a month now, and Feedly users have long been requesting that the team add the ability to organize content in the app via tags.
Facebook announced a new update for its mobile clients today, bringing the iOS app to version 16.1. The update brings about a new workflow that will make it easier for users to post multiple photos to the popular social network from their smartphones and tablets.
Using the Facebook app, you can now choose the exact order of photos when uploading them via iPhone or Android. Once you've selected the images, you'll see a preview of how the "story" (interesting that Facebook calls it that) will appear after its been posted.
Apple's just-released OS X Yosemite is thus far seeing slightly better adoption rates than last year's Mavericks launch. New stats from the research team at Chitika ad network show Yosemite was installed on approximately 12.8% of Macs in North America in the first week.
Additionally, Chitika notes that OS X Yosemite accounted for more than 1% of all North American Web traffic from OS X users on launch day. That's more than double the first-day adoption rates of Apple's prior Mac OS updates, OS X Mavericks and OS X Mountain Lion.
Vemedio has released version 5 of its popular Instacast podcast client this morning, and it is absolutely packed with new features and improvements. Perhaps the most obvious change is the new design, which gives the app a much more modern look.
And as you'd hope, the new UI looks great on the new iPhones, as it includes full support for their larger displays. The app also includes support for iOS 8 extensions, which allows you to share episode show notes, links and more via the iOS share sheet.
In line with expectations, FX has activated the Simpsons World portal in its FX Now application this afternoon. Authenticated users get access to a deep catalog of content, including, for the first time ever, on-demand access to all 552 episodes of The Simpsons television show.
Simpsons World will be available on various platforms, such as the FXNOW app for iPhone, iPad, Android, Xbox, Apple TV, and of course SimpsonsWorld.com. At the time of this writing, the portal was not showing up on Apple TV, but it did appear within the iOS FX Now app.
Apple has this afternoon pushed out an update for its iTunes Connect app for iOS. The app offers registered iTunes developers a handful of management tools, including the ability to access sales data for their apps and e-books, for their iPhones and iPads.
Today's update brings the app to version 3.0.1, and while Apple suggests that it's a minor one, it adds support for some significant new features. The app now utilizes iOS 8 sign-in with Touch ID, and it supports the larger displays of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
Twitter has released an update for its popular video-sharing app Vine today, bringing the iOS client to version 3.0. The update features a number of enhancements, including support of iOS 8 extensions and the larger displays of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
With iOS 8 extension support, users can now upload content to Vine from the Photos app, or any other video app that supports extensions. Users can also now follow Vine channels, such as Animals or Comedy, to get relevant videos added to their feeds.
Facebook today issued an update for its popular Paper app, bringing the iOS client to build 1.2.4. Inline with recent updates for the native Facebook app, and Messenger, the latest version of Paper brings about support for the larger displays of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
In the release notes, Facebook says that Paper "looks beautiful on the latest iPhones," as it's now optimized for their Retina HD displays. It also adds that 1.2.4 includes performance improvements, bug fixes—particularly one involving the keyboard, and is more reliable.
Apple sent out a notification to developers today, giving them a heads up on a few upcoming changes to its App Store submission policy. Posted in its developer portal, the bulletin says that beginning in February of next year, iOS applications must meet two new requirements.
Starting February 1, 2015, new apps and updates must be built using the iOS 8 SDK (software development kit), and they must include 64-bit support, otherwise they will be rejected. Apple made a similar announcement around this time last year for iOS 7 app optimization.
Great news for Dropbox users this evening, as it appears the online storage service pushed out an update for its iOS client this weekend. Dubbed version 3.5, the new build of the app brings about support for the higher resolution displays of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, and other enhancements.
In the change log, Dropbox lists a fix for previewing RTF files on iOS 8 and other general stability and performance improvements. It also notes that users with an iPhone 5s or later, running iOS 8 or later, now have the option to unlock their Dropbox accounts using Touch ID fingerprints.
Adding to the list of growing OS X Yosemite software updates, AgileBits posted a new version of 1Password for Mac this morning. The update, which brings the client to version 5.0, offers full support for the just-released OS upgrade, complete with refreshed design and other improvements.
Among the improvements is enhanced iCloud sync, which is faster and more reliable than ever (note: iCloud sync now requires 1Password 5 on iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite to function). Wi-Fi sync also got an upgrade, and now allows users to sync attachments with devices on the same network.
Earlier today, Apple announced that its highly anticipated OS X Yosemite update would be available today. And we are happy to announce that the update just landed in the Mac App Store, and is now available to all users for free, as long as you have a compatible Mac machine.
The release is a major one for the Mac platform, as it brings about a number of improvements. The software's UI design has been refreshed, bringing it more in line with iOS, and there are several new features including Notification Center widgets, and text message forwarding.
