Electra Team lead developer CoolStar took to Twitter late last night to announce that the Chimera jailbreak tool for iOS 12.0-12.4 had been updated to version 1.4.0.
It’s the first update to be released for the aging Chimera jailbreak since last September, and despite multiple teasers for Chimera13, an alleged iOS 13-supported version of the Electra Team’s jailbreak tool, CoolStar recently pulled the plug on plans to launch it.
The checkra1n team is best known for its checkm8 bootrom exploit-based jailbreak tool for A9-A11 devices. But those closely following outspoken members of the team on Twitter, namely Luca Todesco (@qwertyoruiopz), likely took note of some particularly interesting teasers Tweeted Tuesday morning and afternoon.

It was only last month that Pwn20wnd released an updated version of the unc0ver jailbreak with official support for iOS 13.0-13.3 on a plethora of different device types. Unsurprisingly, it wasn’t long before CoolStar began hyping Chimera13 – a project that was expected to add similar device and firmware support to the Electra Team’s competing jailbreak solution.
But citing a series of Tweets shared by Electra Team lead developer CoolStar on Tuesday, it seems that Chimera13 won’t be released to the general public after all:
Hacker and unc0ver lead developer Pwn20wnd cooked up a brand-new update for his renowned jailbreak tool and released it to the public on Sunday, officially bringing it up to version 4.3.1.
Pwn20wnd announced the latest update in a Tweet shared this afternoon, adding that it would introduce more than 30 bug fixes and stability improvements for jailbreakers:
We’ve witnessed a plethora of teasers from Pwn20wnd and the rest of team unc0ver throughout the past week. That said, it might come off as somewhat of a surprise that the checkra1n team launched an updated public beta version of the checkra1n jailbreak Wednesday afternoon, seemingly out of the blue.
The announcement, shared first by checkra1n team member Luca Todesco, denoted that the latest version of the checkra1n jailbreak tool would be v0.9.8.1 and that it would incorporate substantial changes:
The bootrom exploit-based checkra1n jailbreak initially started out as a macOS-only utility for pwning compatible iOS devices, but it soon picked up official Linux support in a later update.
While the circumstances still aren’t ideal for Windows users, it is both possible and somewhat easy to dual-boot Linux on a Windows PC. But that may not be entirely necessary if you have certain Android devices laying around…
Kicking off this Wednesday morning, hacker and unc0ver lead developer Pwn20wnd has issued an updated version of the unc0ver jailbreak tool dubbed version 4.2.1.
In a Tweet shared just minutes ago, Pwn20wnd said that unc0ver v4.2.1 would resolve a plethora of issues that were present in v4.2.0, including battery drain and Substitute unreliability:
It was only yesterday that talented hacker and iOS exploit tinkerer Jake James released time_waste, a reworked version of Brandon Azad’s oob_timestamp tfp0 exploit. Time_waste solves many of the memory leak issues that were present in the oob_timestamp exploit, and given the apparent enhancements, it’s not difficult to see why Pwn20wnd switched to using James’ exploit for the unc0ver jailbreak instead.
But while the aforementioned advantages are obvious, that didn’t stop James from taking things a step further. Just this afternoon, James announced via Twitter that he had managed to get the time_waste tfp0 exploit working on iOS 12; moreover, it even seems to play nicely with A8X-equipped devices:
Pwn20wnd officially released unc0ver v4.2.0 to the general public Tuesday afternoon after several internal beta testers had teased the jailbreak working on A8X-A11 devices running iOS 13.0-13.3 earlier in the day.
