Authenticity of leaked ‘iPhone 5C’ boxes questioned, but name said to be real

Over the weekend, some photos of packaging allegedly belonging to Apple's low-cost iPhone surfaced on the internet. Admittedly, the boxes looked fake, as there were a number of visible inconsistencies, but the 'iPhone 5C' branding on them was intriguing.

Today, our friends over Nowhereelse.fr confirmed our suspicions, highlighting a number of issues with the boxesm including odd blurred and distorted areas, and missing Apple logos. But as it turns out, the name 'iPhone 5C' might actually be legitimate...

Sketchy photos claim to show budget ‘iPhone 5C’ packaging

A new set of photos hit the web this morning, showing a number of boxes with the label 'iPhone 5C' on the side. Our first instinct is, of course, that these boxes belong to one of the many iPhone clones circulating about Asia. But on the off chance that there's more to it than that, we've posted them.

The images come courtesy of Nowhereelse.fr, who has posted accurate photos of leaked parts in the past, and their theory on them is actually quite interesting. The site suggests that it's possible that these plastic boxes are the packaging for Apple's rumored budget iPhone, expected to debut this fall...

Apple’s Q4 guidance suggests we’ll see a new iPhone in September

During Apple's quarterly earnings call yesterday afternoon, Tim Cook said something along the lines of "Apple has some great stuff coming in the fall." While the comment is vague, Apple's Q4 guidance may shine some light on when exactly we can expect to see new products.

Apple said that it expects revenue of $34 billion to $37 billion in the September quarter, with gross margins between 36 and 37%. And, according to BTIG analyst Walt Piecyk, those numbers only make sense if the company introduces some new hardware in September...

Rumor: Apple to discontinue iPhone 5 alongside budget, 5S launch

A new report out of Korea today claims that Apple is going to be discontinuing production of the iPhone 5 this fall, transferring all of its efforts to its next generation flagship handset, the iPhone 5S, and the long-rumored 'budget iPhone.'

Citing 'industry partners' with knowledge of the situation, ETNews is reporting this afternoon that Apple has asked its supply chain partners to wind down iPhone 5 production. And, according to the report, it plans to halt it altogether this fall...

Plastic iPhone shell compared to 3GS, iPod touch in new hi-res video

Most of the reports we've seen over the past 6 months have suggested that Apple is going to be releasing a new, low-cost iPhone alongside its iPhone 5S this fall. And the theory has been corroborated by a mound of evidence, including a barrage of plastic iPhone shells.

Adding to the evidence today is Michael Kukielka, also known as the DetroitBorg, who has posted a high quality video of what appears to be a white plastic iPhone shell. Kukielka gives us a clear view of the case and compares it to the iPod touch and other iPhone models...

WSJ: Apple testing 13-inch iPad, larger iPhones

Apple and its suppliers are testing larger screens for iPhones and tablets, according to a new report by The Wall Street Journal. The outlet claims the Cupertino company has asked its Asian partners for a wide range of screen sizes for prototype devices.

In recent months, Apple has requested smartphone screens larger than 4 inches—the size of the displays on its current iPhone and iPod, as well as screen designs for a new tablet device that is said to measure slightly less than 13 inches diagonally...

Apple Store app to be redesigned with free iTunes content in iPhone sales push

Apple will release a new version of its Apple Store application for the iPhone and iPod touch next week, according to a new report. The update will include a redesigned interface and a handful of new features, including free downloadable iTunes content.

The move is said to be part of Tim Cook's goal to sell more iPhones direct from Apple's direct sales channels. Apparently, the plan is to get the app installed on as many device's as possible so that more people are exposed to the company's choice products...

Apple’s plans for TV growing less ambitious with Time Warner deal

As we’ve heard a few times over the past month, Apple and Time Warner Cable appear to be very close to inking a deal that would bring a TWC app to the Apple TV’s Home screen. It would mark the first time that the set-top box would be capable of streaming live TV.

Initial details regarding the service have been scarce, but a new report this morning helps add a bit of color. Citing people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg warns users not to get too excited, as the TWC app will save them little more than a click of the remote...

DigiTimes: iPad mini with Retina display coming in October

The inexact DigiTimes is reporting this morning that the next-generation iPad mini will feature a Retina display, and is expected to be introduced in October. The report is in direct contradiction to the publication's own scoop from earlier this week.

On Monday, the Taiwanese outlet added to speculation that Apple was delaying the launch of its Retina iPad mini until 2014 due to panel shortages. But apparently, LG has made significant progress with its production, and it's back on track for the fall...

With all of the recent chatter regarding the budget iPhone and so-called iWatch, it seems like the rumor mill has forgotten all about Apple's plan to build a television set. Looking back, the last iTV report popped up back in May.

But that doesn't mean the project is dead. In fact, according to this new report from DigiTimes, it's very much alive. The controversial outlet claims that Apple is currently in talks with LG Display over large-sized 4K TV panels...

Despite the fact that Apple showed up to the 7-8-inch tablet game late, it has taken the lead in the space. Admittedly, Amazon doesn't offer sales numbers and Apple doesn't break up iPad sales, but it's widely believed that most of them are minis.

But it appears Google is looking to de-throne the Cupertino company next week, by introducing a new version of its Nexus 7. The search giant issued media invitations to a July 24 event this morning, and there's been several leaks since then...

The Israeli newspaper Calcalist in late-2011 accurately reported on Apple's $500 million purchase of the Israeli Flash memory startup Anobit.

Yesterday, the paper claimed Apple had been mulling buying PrimeSense, the motion control specialists behind the original Kinect motion sensor for Microsoft's Xbox console.

It now appears that any such talk could be premature as an unnamed source associated with the motion-gesture startup debunked the rumor in an interview with TechCrunch...
