Push Notification

How to get notified when we post a new YouTube video

As a part of yesterday's YouTube app update for iOS, it is now possible to receive a push notification whenever we post a new video on iDownloadBlog's YouTube channel.

Each week, we post several videos about jailbreaking, the latest Cydia tips, tricks, tips, reviews, and more. iDB's YouTube channel is a great source for the latest information on all things Apple, jailbreaking, iOS, and the iPhone and iPad.

With this latest update, it's even easier to stay up to date with all of our new video content. In this post, we'll show you how to do just that.

Notifications for Reddit provides message alerts in real time

I've always wondered why popular Reddit clients such as Alien Blue and Narwhal don't support push notifications for various alerts. Not being a heavy redditor myself, replies to my comments will often go unnoticed until the next time I open a Reddit client, and that might take a few days, which sometimes proves to be inconvenient. However, Notifications for Reddit is a recently-launched solution.

OneDrive gains Document Provider extension, Recycle Bin support, push alerts and more

Microsoft's iOS client for its cloud-storage service, OneDrive, has received a significant update Friday bringing out a Document Provider extension of its own. The Document Provider extension is one of the major new extensibility features in iOS 8. With Document Providers, developers can write apps which expose their custom remote or local storage functionality to the operating system.

What this means for OneDrive fans is that they can now access their files in other apps. To see how this works and learn more about other changes in OneDrive 4.6, jump past the fold.

Notifyr app goes free: receive iOS notifications on your Mac

Today seems to be the day for app discounts, as Apple is giving away Rise Alarm Clock, and now the developer of Notifyr, an app for receiving iPhone push notifications on your Mac, is giving his app away for free every other day for a week.

We first wrote about Notifyr on its launch back in May, and it took the tech community somewhat by surprise, as many thought Apple would remove it from the App Store per one of their many regulations. Regardless, it's been available for download at a $3.99 price tag up until today, as Notifyr has gone free for a limited time.

New in iOS 8: reply notifications for Mail threads

Apple really seems laser-focused on further removing communication hurdles and friction in iOS 8 by advancing Mail and Messages stock apps in ways more than one.

For the most part, the changes in these two apps are for the better: Apple hasn't cluttered their interfaces nor has it changed the familiar design.

Apple's thinking and consideration for the end user is especially evident in how iOS 8 handles group chats in Messages and email threads in Mail.

While you can now finally leave a group chat in Messages, Mail in iOS 8 sports a really useful feature where you tell it to issue a push notification each time someone has replied to a designated email thread...

New ‘Notifyr’ app pushes your iPhone notifications to your Mac

A new iPhone app has surfaced in the App Store that offers a fairly unique feature: the ability to push notifications to your Mac. It's called Notifyr, and it utilizes a companion OS X client and Bluetooth LE tech to automatically send your iOS notifications to your desktop.

The whole thing is fairly easy to set up. After you've downloaded both the iOS app and the Mac client, you'll follow the usual bluetooth pairing procedure. And once that's done, you should start seeing all of your iOS notifications pop up in your Mac's Notification Center...

pushNotify is available on Cydia: forward push notifications to your Mac

pushNotify, a tweak that lets you forward your iOS push notifications to your Mac, is now available on Cydia. Jeff took the tweak for a spin a couple days ago, which you can see in action in the video above.

pushNotify is available in the BigBoss repo for $0.99. It also requires a companion app for your Mac that you can download for free.

Is that something you'd use? If you haven't already tried it, please make sure to tell us what you think.

If you're on the fence about getting this tweak, have a look at Jeff's full review of pushNotify.

Apple seen testing push notifications for resolved Maps issues

Apple is apparently testing a new notification system for Maps, according to a report from MacRumors. The site has posted screenshots showing a new option that some users are seeing to receive a push notification when their reported issue with the app has been fixed.

It works like this: after choosing to 'Report a Problem' within the Maps app, users are given the option to be notified when engineers have fixed the issue. And once the problem has been resolved, Apple sends out a push notification to that user's device letting them know...

Upcoming ‘PushNotify’ tweak will let you forward push notifications from iOS to the Mac

I've been testing PushNotify for a few weeks, and now I can finally talk about what it does. A lot of you have been asking me about this tweak, because you've seen its settings featured in my other videos and screenshots.

PushNotify, to put it simply, is a jailbreak tweak that lets your forward push notifications to the Mac. It does so by means of a small menu-bar utility that runs on the Mac, and a jailbreak tweak that's installed via Cydia on your iOS device.

We've taken PushNotify for a test drive on video, and we'd like to show you how it works. Check inside for the details.

You can now get iDownloadBlog push notifications on your Mac

With the release of OS X Mavericks, Apple has introduced a way for readers to be alerted via push notification every time a new article is published on one of their favorite sites. Today, I am happy to announce that iDownloadBlog is able to deliver these push notifications to your Mac.

Showing as a banner in the upper-right corner of your Mac, these push notifications will allow you to instantly know when a new article is published on iDB, even if Safari isn't currently running.

Here is how you can subscribe:

Safari push notifications going live ahead of OS X Mavericks release

In a rare move, Apple last week issued a silent update to OS X Mavericks Gold Master as the company is supposed to share pricing and availability information about the software at today's iPad event. And conveniently just a few hours ahead of the big reveal, a few high-profile websites have now flipped the switch on Safari push notifications.

For those uninitiated, this is a new feature of OS X Mavericks that allows web applications to send alerts which go straight to the Notification Center, even when Safari isn't running.

Only a handful of websites have activated the feature, though others are expected to follow suit as soon as Mavericks goes public, which some watchers think might happen during today's event...

Pebble smartwatch gets email notifications courtesy of app update

Good news for Pebble owners this afternoon. The company just posted an update for the smartwatch's companion iPhone app that adds support for incoming email push notifications, meaning you can get alerts on your Pebble watch when new emails arrive.

The app has to be running in the background of your iPhone for it to work, and it's only compatible with Gmail and other IMAP email services. But the feature should get substantially more functionality when iOS 7 is released, as it has better accessory support...
