Over 300 million devices now on iOS 6 and above

In addition to seeding the public version of iOS 6.1 this morning, Apple also published a press release announcing a number of interesting stats and milestones. The most notable landmark is that there are now more than 300 million users on iOS 6.0 and above.

That's pretty wild, considering that last week the company said there are now more than 500 million iOS devices in the wild. That's well over a 50% take rate in less than 6 months, which certainly bodes well for app developers. Keep reading for more details...

Apple sold record 2 million Apple TVs last quarter

Among some of the more interesting tidbits from Apple's earnings call today was Tim Cook's mention of Apple TV sales. The device has long been called a hobby by Cook and other Apple executives, but it doesn't act like one.

The Cupertino company sold over 2 million Apple TVs during last quarter, a record high for the company. That's a 60% growth over last year's first fiscal quarter, which is bigger than that of both the iPhone and the iPad...

Verizon numbers suggest Apple sold over 50M iPhones last quarter

Apple is set to announce its iPhone sales and other figures from the holiday quarter tomorrow, in what many are calling its most important earnings report of the last decade. Recently, rumors of slipping iPhone and iPad demand have driven the company's stock down to $500. And this is its chance to start turning things around.

The focal point will be on iPhone numbers, since the handsets account for half of Apple's business. And it needs to have sold in upwards of 50 million of them to avoid disappointing the Street. Well according to analyst Brian White, they hit that mark and then some...

Temple Run 2 sees 20 million iOS downloads in 4 days

Last week Imangi Studios released a sequel to its widely popular endless-runner game, Temple Run. The game landed here in the US on Thursday night, and within 8 hours it had shot up to the #1 Free App in the App Store.

But apparently its impressive run didn't stop there. Imangi issued a press release this morning announcing that Temple Run 2 was downloaded more than 20 million times, on iOS alone, in its first four days of availability...

Minecraft sold more on mobile than any other platform in 2012

You might be tempted to think of Minecraft: Pocket Edition as the lesser version of Minecraft, a fun diversion but not the real game. When Pocket Edition was first launched in 2011, it lacked many of the desktop version's features, including crafting and survival mode. Now that Pocket Edition is catching up in terms of features, it seems the tide is turning.

In fact, Pocket Edition was the most purchased version of Minecraft in 2012, according to numbers released by Mojang last week. Minecraft: Pocket Edition sold over 39.1% of units, or 5,899,727 copies total. This was ahead of Minecraft for Mac/PC, at 27.7%, and the Xbox 360 edition, at 33.2%...

Nexus 7 believed to have outsold iPad in Japan over the holidays

Apple unveiled two new iPads just before the holidays, and is expected, by many analysts, to report strong tablet sales for the quarter next week. But according to a new report out of Japan, that may not be the case.

Market research firm BCN surveyed some 2,400 consumer electronics stores in Japan throughout the month of December. And their results showed that the iPad was outsold during the period, for the first time since 2010...

Apple's quarterly earnings call is coming up next Wednesday, where the company will reveal its iPhone sales and other figures from the holiday quarter. And given its recent stock drop due to iPhone demand concerns, all of Wall Street will be watching.
