LockLyrics: Display Song Lyrics on Your LockScreen

In continuing with the lockscreen tweak trend we've been seeing lately, here's LockLyrics. This jailbreak package enables users to view song lyrics on — you guessed it — the lockscreen.

Sure, you can view lyrics for your favorite tracks in the iPod app. There are even utilities that allow you to call up song lyrics with an Activator function. But LockLyrics does have its advantages...

Retrofy Your iDevice with VinylLove Pocket

Out of all the media types that have come and gone, vinyl is the only one that I've truly missed.

Now,  in the days of MP3s and digital content, who would ever want to hear the crackle of the needle or have to flip an oversized disc every 6 or so songs? Well, it's not as small a group as you would think, and vinyl records are starting to make a comeback.

Thanks to a new app by developer Color Monkey, we can have all the perks and fun of playing a record without any of the work.

VinylLove is a fun app to play your music. It transforms your iPod library into a collection of vinyls...

It seems that in most markets, Apple can do no wrong, with competitors failing left and right. According to Macworld, the digital music business is no different, as Walmart has announced the closure of its iTunes music store competitor.

Walmart confirmed in a press release that they will kill their online music offering on August 29th...

HomeScreenMusic: Control Your Tracks by Tapping a Springboard Icon

One of my favorite things about the iOS iPod app is the fact that you can control the music from almost anywhere. You can pause or play tracks from the in-line remote, the lock screen, and even in the multitasking bar.

Jailbreaking opens up several other possibilities with utilities like Activator and SBSettings. But if all of these options weren't enough, you now have another tweak to consider. HomeScreenMusic gives you access to iPod controls right on your springboard...

App Store Download Numbers Now Larger Than Music Store

With Apple announcing that its App Store had reached the impressive 15 billion downloads mark, research company Asymco has crunched the numbers and, as it turns out, the App Store has now surpassed the iTunes music store in download rankings.

This conclusion comes after a bit of detective work based off Apple's announcement a month ago that it had served 15 billion songs. Asymco believes app sales have now overtaken song sales- an impressive feat...

AOL Launches PLAY Music App for the iPhone

AOL, the very company that owns popular tech sites like Engadget and TUAW, has launched a new music app for the iPhone, called "PLAY." This app is described as, "an application that lets you share musical moments with friends," and it can best be seen as AOL's attempt at Apple's own social network, "Ping."

With other services, like Spotify, offering paid music streaming in the US, PLAY offers a free catalog of popular music for playback at any time on the iPhone.

Spotify Hits the US

Spotify, the popular music streaming service, has finally hit the US. We reported last week of its imminent launch, and now the wait is over, but, unfortunately, there is a catch. If you had signed up last week, you are going to receive an invite to join Spotify. If you haven’t, the only way for you to start using their service right away is to subscribe to one of their paid plans.

They are not expensive, starting at $4.99 for the Unlimited package, which lets you stream unlimited music, and $9.99 for the Premium package, which allows you to stream to your mobile and offers an offline mode as well. Refer to this page for more accurate info...
