Motorola Wins Injunction Against Apple in Germany

Motorola Mobility has just announced that it has scored a major victory in its ongoing patent war with Apple. Just as the iPhone-makers have done to Samsung, Motorola has just won an injunction that bans the import of 3G iPads and iPhones into Germany.

This will be the company's second German court victory in as many months, but the ramifications for Apple are a lot more serious this time around. Unless Apple wins an appeal, it will be forced to stop shipping some of its biggest products into the country...

Apple Could See iPad Sales Blocked in China Over Trademark Infringement

Apple is no stranger to litigation. In the last 6 months alone it has taken on all three major Android partners (Samsung, HTC, and Motorola) in some sort of courtroom battle. So it was no surprise to hear about its recent lawsuit in China over the iPad trademark.

But what is surprising is the fact that a Shenzhen court rejected the lawsuit, ruling in favor of the defendant, Proview — a Taiwanese electronics company. So until Apple decides to take further action, it doesn't own the rights to "iPad" in the world's largest country...

Apple Listed in Carrier IQ Class Action Lawsuit

We all saw this coming. BGR is reporting that multiple law firms from the north eastern region of the United States have just filed class action lawsuits against Apple and several other manufacturers and wireless carriers due to their part in the Carrier IQ scandal.

Carrier IQ's IQRD app comes pre-installed on millions of handsets each year, and was recently exposed for secretly collecting private user data. The software is hidden within mobile operating systems and never asks for a user's permission to collect their information.

Apple Awaits Major Court Decision That Could Ban HTC Phones in the US

Although Apple's patent war with Samsung has received a lot of media attention over the last few months, its battle with HTC has been just as fierce. In fact, it was HTC's multi-touch-enabled handset that first sent Steve Jobs through the roof last year.

As with Samsung, Apple has taken HTC on in dozens of courtrooms around the globe. But perhaps none of them are more important than the case going on in the United States right now. Its outcome could have huge ramifications for both companies...

Everything You Need to Know About Apple and Samsung’s Patent War [Infographic]

A lot has happened in the patent war between Apple and Samsung since the iPad-makers filed the original patent infringement suit earlier this year. Apple's won a majority of the bouts, winning injunctions against Samsung's products on multiple continents.

But with battles taking place in dozens of courtrooms around the globe, it's hard to keep up with all of the action. Luckily, we've come across this handy infographic that helps explain some of the major events in the ongoing feud between the two companies...

Apple Gave Samsung the Opportunity to License Its Patents

Among its various patent lawsuits with Samsung and other Android partners, Apple has made one thing clear: it's in the business of making great products, not licensing patents. It's not in it for the money, it's in it to ensure that its unique products stay unique.

But that doesn't mean that Apple won't license low-level iOS patents. It's already done so with companies like Nokia and IBM. And as it turns out, Apple has even tried to offer Samsung the opportunity to license its patents. But for some reason, the Korean company declined...

Australian Court Overturns Samsung Tablet Ban Ruling

It looks like Christmas came early for Samsung this year. Gizmodo is reporting that an Australian court has overturned the injunction against the Korean company that banned it from selling its popular Galaxy tablet on the continent.

The ban is the result of an ongoing world-wide patent dispute between the two companies and has been in place since late Summer. But, apparently, Samsung made a good case in its appeal it filed last week because the injunction has been lifted...

Apple Claims it Could Lose $2.7 Billion in Motorola Lawsuit

Earlier this month, a German court awarded Motorola Mobility a temporary injunction against Apple for infringing on its intellectual property. An injunction, in this sense, can prevent a company from selling its products in the area in which it's granted.

But the decision was made against Apple Inc., which doesn't actually sell products in Germany. Motorola also filed a lawsuit against Apple Germany. And the outcome of this case could cost the company some serious financial losses...

Apple Goes After Amazon in Court Again Over Using the Term “App Store”

While Apple's long-running legal battle with Samsung has been consistently receiving the headlines, Tim Cook's band of highly paid lawyers are also going after another one of the tech industry's big boys, Amazon. Since the beginning of the battle back in March, Apple has been suing the retailer/tablet-maker over its use of the phrase "App Store."

Apple has now revised that lawsuit, claiming that Amazon has altered the way it uses the phrase, removing "for Android" from the end of the company's description of the app store implemented in its new tablet, the Kindle Fire.

Simply calling its store the "Amazon Appstore," Amazon is risking the wrath of Apple's lawyers again...

Samsung Being Investigated for Possible Antitrust Practices

Back in April of this year, Apple filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Samsung. The Korean manufacturer responded with a counter-infringement lawsuit, and the two companies have been in and out of courtrooms ever since.

In their latest battle, Samsung attempted to bar Apple's products from the European Union, once again based on patent infringement. But instead of winning an injunction, Samsung caught the eye of the European Commission...

Motorola Mobility Wins Injunction Against Apple in Germany

Patents were once used to protect a company's inventions. But in recent years it seems like they're more frequently used as ammunition for expensive courtroom battles. Perhaps no other company is more familiar with this than Apple.

The iPhone makers have been involved in dozens of patent disputes over the last decade, most notably its recent bouts with Android partners. In fact, the Cupertino company has been on a win-streak against Google's manufacturers, until now...

Samsung to Apple: Give Us the iPhone 4S Source Code

Samsung has requested that Apple hand over the source code for the iPhone 4S firmware along with the dark details of its iPhone subsidy agreements with Australian carriers. In the ongoing legal battle between Samsung and Apple, both companies continue to accuse each other of infringing on each other's patents.

After fighting legal battles in multiple countries around the world, Samsung and Apple have landed in the Australian court to duke it out. This time, Samsung is countering Apple's preliminary injunction on the Galaxy Tab with its own preliminary injunction against the newly-released iPhone 4S.
