September 9 event wallpapers: “Hey Siri, give us a hint”

On Thursday, August 27, Apple released the media invitation for an event on September 9. The fall announcements typically highlight updates for iOS devices. Sometimes iPhone and iPad are announced separately, but it is estimated both devices will receive a refresh in the coming weeks.

In line with new invitations, the web quickly rushes to build corresponding, celebratory wallpapers. Inside, we have some quick work done by avid iDB readers. Within hours, they shared their collections and we pass them on to you.

Exclusive Apple Watch-inspired wallpapers

This past week marks the Apple Watch release date, April 24, 2015. Although the date has come under fire, at least a few pre-orders were filled and May/June ship dates are seeing movement. Since the pre-order launch on April 10, Apple removed the April 24 date from the online Apple Stores and Angela Ahrendts released an internal memo all but confirming in-store sales are not going to happen until around June.

Inside, we have the single largest wallpaper selection in an iDB post. Thanks to some great work by Jason Zigrino and Efrain Roa, there are enough images in there to keep you busy while waiting for your device. There are images for iPhone, iPad, and desktop in a wide range of colors that will match any new Apple Watch you are hoping to have in your hands.

New Macbook wallpapers for iPad, iPhone, and Desktop

Last week, Apple surprised us with a completely redesigned MacBook. Of course, there were leaks in the months leading up to the event, but the new technology and form factor is very astonishing. With a thinner design, new keyboard, Force Touch trackpad, and micro logic board, it is clear Apple is pushing laptop computing forward. Even the USB-C is striking.

In the opening video, a glimmering bubble floats into the Retina MacBook screen corner, showing off color depth and a glass-edged screen. In this week's Wallpapers of the Week post, Jason Zigrino captures the bubble for all devices.

iOS 8 style flowers wallpapers for iPhone

Today we feature a set of wallpapers in the iOS 8 style. While the flower images pushed by Apple in their latest software version received some criticism for their non-masculine appearance, the vibrant colors accentuate the new Retina HD displays. The new curved glass screens on iPhone 6 melt with the aluminum housing and the dark black background rolls away, only leaving the flowers to pop.

Honoring design features of the existing wallpapers, the selection today honors the details of the stock iOS 8 flower wallpapers. Whether you want to argue over masculinity is your choice. Either way, the wallpapers look magnificent.

The mysterious iPad Air 2 wallpapers… for iPhone

Over the past couple weeks, many folks tracked me down on Twitter hoping I was able to find the images used to market and advertise the new iPad Air 2. Originally on the iPad Air 2 web page, the included images were used as Lock screen splash images. Many people were excited about the new walls, but unfortunately, they did not ship with either iOS 8.1, iPad Air 2, or iPad mini 3.

The Lock screen images were originally on the website with different iPads, but seem to now be pulled down. If searching in the right place, you can still find the image pictured above. However, a blue-green variant is now seemingly removed. In an effort to support those folks looking for these images, we made them our Wallpapers of the Week.

Apple 5K Retina wallpapers for iMac, iPhone, and iPad

Late last week, Apple announced new iPads, a Mac Mini upgrade, and their largest Retina display, the new 5K iMac. The Retina iMac marks a new standard in desktop graphics. While many current displays offer a 4K standard, Apple takes things one step farther by adding an additional 1,000+ pixels in both directions to offer the crisp experience.

Although the wallpaper from Apple's iMac webpage is not populated in the current Yosemite build, it may only appear for Apple iMac 5K Display models. In an effort to release this incredible image to the masses, our good friend Jason Zigrino worked a little magic to pull this official wallpaper download directly from Apple.

October 16 event wallpapers: “it’s been way too long”

As with all Apple event invitations, we rush to provide you with a way to celebrate on your own device! Almost right on cue, we were able to receive wallpapers from our consistent iDB reader, Jason Zigrino. The imagery is extremely simple in this invitation, unlike some other more developed invites. The term "It's been way too long" will certainly keep some armchair analysts awake at night pondering over its hidden meaning.

We are fairly certain the event will contain new iPads and some second device, which leaves people guessing Apple TV, new MacBooks, iMacs, or maybe retina iMacs. Currently, the guessing game is available for anyone to play, as the invitation leaves everything open for interpretation.

Apple logo wallpapers for iPhone 6

With new phone upgrades and additional screen sizes comes the struggle to find newly created wallpapers to grace our screens. While the iPhone 6 Plus is 1080 x 1920, standard HD resolution, the parallax effect will add additional pixels to any true iPhone 6/Plus wallpaper image.

My goal with the Wallpapers of the Week section is to bring iOS wallpapers to you on a weekly basis. More importantly, when new devices are launched, we try to have wallpapers at-the-ready. This week is our first posting since the iPhone 6 launched on Friday. With this post, you will find parallax-ready images for iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6, and we still included the iPhone 5s.

Download the new iOS 8 wallpapers

Along with the iPhone 6 and Apple Watch announcements, the GM version of iOS 8 was released to developers. As is typical with all major iterations of Apple's mobile operating system, there were new wallpapers released. The GM release is currently only available for registered developers, which means the common users are left waiting for iOS 8 to launch publicly before taking advantage of the images.

Thankfully, we have a connection with @JasonZigrino, who is the graphic artist responsible for publishing these iOS 8 wallpapers for us. Additionally, @BenjaminTourin helped with the technical aspect of snagging these files out of the iOS 8 GM and also launched them on his personal blog.

Down below, we have the full pack of iOS 8 wallpapers for iPhone and iPad for you to download.

September 9 invites wallpapers: “wish we could say more”

Today, Apple sent out invitations to an event hosted on September 9, 2014 at 10:00AM PST. Per usual, there is a rush in the community to determine what Apple has hidden inside the graphic. The "Wish we could say more" line has lead many to speculate about enhanced Siri optimization or the ability to action iPhone through voice commands on a wearable device. Just yesterday, Re/code claimed the highly anticipated Apple wearable, dubbed "iWatch," should launch alongside the iPhone 6 at the upcoming event.

As with many recent Apple announcements, designers quickly put their skills to work, publishing wallpapers inspired by the invitation. Inside are a few wallpapers, for your favorite upcoming Apple event.

Instagram’s Bolt wallpapers

As with previous Wallpaper of the Week editions, there is a desire to populate relevant media to the section. Typically, the section is completed with wallpapers by theme or genre. Alternatively, when there are time related walls, we like to make sure they spot light on the Sunday afternoon post.

Instagram released a new Snapchat competitor, Bolt. Considered a "one-tap photo messaging" solution, Bolt does not require a Facebook or Instagram account to operate. Instead, Bolt utilizes a mobile phone number to interact with friends via photos and videos.

With a minimal and elegant home page, Bolt sparked the interest of @JasonZigrino, who submitted his wallpapers inspired by the new app.

Puerta del Sol wallpapers

Apple is constantly adding new stores around the globe. Frequently, Apple creates a marketing scheme to celebrate the new additions. In Tokyo, the marketing scheme surrounded a green wall that is adorned with plants, as a climate controlled wall to help regulate indoor temperatures. With the new feature in mind, Apple created a very green and leafy cover board and art to coincide with the store opening. We featured several wallpaper versions that were inspired by Apples green friendly design and many readers enjoyed the art.

Today, the same artist is back at it, with a wallpaper set highlighting the most recent June 21 opening in Madrid's Puerta del Sol...
