SwitchSpring: a new jailbreak tweak that brings respring control to the app switcher

And...let the inevitable deluge of new jailbreak apps and tweaks begin! SwitchSpring is a brand new jailbreak tweak that just appeared on Cydia today. Keep in mind that there still may be some underlying compatibility issues with jailbreak tweaks as all of the bugs and updates get ironed out from yesterday's surprise iOS 7 jailbreak release, but things are slowly moving towards that direction.

I was able to test out SwitchSpring on my jailbroken iPod touch 5th generation, and it worked just fine. This is a jailbreak tweak that allows you to easily kill all running apps or respring your device right from the app switcher. Of course, I've made a video walkthrough showcasing how SwitchSpring works in action, and I encourage you to take a look.

If you have an older device running older firmware, you may have felt left out of yesterday's iOS 7 jailbreak festivities. But, worry not, because there is a release that just dropped in Cydia that allows you to enjoy an untethered jailbreak on your iPhone 4, iPod touch 4th generation, and iPhone 3GS if you're running iOS 6.1.3 through 6.1.5.

The untethered jailbreak, which is called p0sixspwn in Cydia, is a package that allows you to convert a tethered jailbreak into an untethered one. This means that if you're currently jailbroken on one of the aforementioned devices using a tool like redSn0w or sn0wbreeze, you can finally reboot your device without having to perform a tethered boot. evad3rs disable default TaiG installation in China until further notice

Following the backlash coming from the whole jailbreak community for bundling TaiG to their evasi0n7 jailbreak, the evad3rs have decided to turn on the kill switch for this highly controversial feature in order to deactivate it while they investigate the piracy claims.

Earlier today, the evad3rs came forward acknowledging having inked a financial deal with Chinese installer TaiG. According to evad3rs, the agreement clearly required TaiG not to facilitate piracy, which turned out to be closer to wishful thinking than actual binding terms...

Like several of our commenters joked about, today's release of evasi0n7 could be summed up by this quote by Steve Jobs, relating the stolen iPhone 4 episode.

"So this is a story that’s amazing. It’s got theft, it’s got buying stolen property, it’s got extortion, I’m sure there’s sex in there somewhere. So someone should make a movie out of this. This whole thing is very colorful."

All jokes aside, today was a day full of surprising events. The release of evasi0n7 itself was a surprise, especially in regards to the upcoming release of iOS 7.1. Then there was of course the suspicious addition of TaiG for Chinese users, and the long silence from the evad3rs about this all until they finally cleared the air. All this left us with the sour taste of a jailbreak that may or may not really be ready for consumption, as we summed up here.

Now that we have all the pieces together, we'd like to find out if you have, will, or will not jailbreak your device...

Geohot is back on Twitter

We've known this information for a while but since it's now official, there is no more reason for us to sit on it. George Hotz, also know as geohot, also known as the first person to ever unlock an iPhone is back on Twitter.

After closing his account a couple years ago, geohot is back on the social network, and what we can tell is that he's not Tom Cruise!

iOS 7 has been available for about three months now, three very long months for jailbreak fanatics who can't fathom the idea of not having their favorite tweaks on their device. As always, a lot of pressure was put on the prominent jailbreak team of the moment: the evad3rs.

But unlike last year when evad3rs would regularly give updates about their progress, we haven't heard anything about the jailbreak until this morning when evasi0n7 dropped. With the upcoming release of iOS 7.1, it actually seems that this jailbreak was rushed out the door.

What is Taig and what does China have to do with the evasi0n7 jailbreak?

Chinese jailbreakers were up for a surprise this morning when they decided to run evasi0n7 to jailbreak their iOS 7 devices. Instead of finding Cydia installed on their Home screen as you normally do, they found a different installer named Taig – believed to be pronounced Taiji (please correct me if I'm wrong).

How does this Chinese installer get installed on your device? Why would Cydia be put aside for Chinese users? Did the evad3rs get paid one million dollars to strike a deal with a Chinese company? A few questions that I hope to answer in the upcoming paragraphs.

After talking with a reliable source close to the evad3rs, I was given some information on the confusion surrounding the release of this jailbreak. Note that this is me relaying this information as it was given to me. I am not saying everything you read in this post is the truth. So by now you've probably figured out that the evad3rs released a new untethered jailbreak this morning for iOS 7. It's called evasi0n7, and it’s compatible with all iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and iPad mini models running iOS 7.0 through 7.0.4.

As we just told you, the evad3rs have released a new jailbreak tool called evasi0n7, and it allows you to easily jailbreak iOS 7. The good news is that the hack works with all flavors of iOS 7, which includes iOS 7.0.1, iOS 7.0.2, iOS 7.0.3, 7.0.4, 7.0.5, and 7.0.6 (iOS 7.1 cannot be jailbroken at this time).
