CoolStar updates Electra iOS 11.0-11.1.2 jailbreak tool to beta 8-2 with bug fixes

It was just yesterday that CoolStar’s Electra jailbreak tool for iOS 11.0-11.1.2 got updated to beta 8, but many users reported bugs and using it – predominantly with Safari. Fortunately, Electra beta 8-2 launched on Friday with a fix for these issues, among other things.

Just like the LiberiOS jailbreak tool that got released last year, Electra utilizes Ian Beer’s open-source tfp0 exploit. Furthermore, it doesn’t install Cydia, as Saurik has yet to update it for iOS 11 devices.

Purported kernel-level exploit for iOS 11.2-11.2.1 won’t yield a jailbreak

Matrix code hacked iPhone.

Just a couple of days ago, security researcher Russ Cox made headlines after purportedly discovering a kernel-level exploit on iOS 11.2-11.2.1 devices. But as it seems, the ensuing excitement may have gotten a little bit out of hand.

Apple’s own security release notes for iOS 11.2.5 cited Cox’s bug as a means of executing arbitrary code on stock devices, but according to the researcher himself, it was nothing more than a memory corruption and Apple may have over-credited his finding.

Personalize the stock Notes app with customizedNotes

One of the fundamental reasons people jailbreak their devices is being able to customize the look and feel of their device, and a new free jailbreak tweak called customizedNotes by iOS developer CydiaGeek lives up to that expectation.

Just as the name implies, customizedNotes lets you personalize iOS’ stock Notes app, allowing you to stand out from every other iPhone user out there.

Kernel exploit for iOS 11.2-11.2.1 surfaces

Security researcher Ian Beer made headlines last year after finding and releasing a tfp0 exploit for iOS 11.0-11.1.2, which powers jailbreak tools like Electra and LiberiOS, just to name a few. But now there’s a new kernel exploit in town, and it impacts later iterations of iOS.

Citing Apple’s security content web page, Tuesday’s iOS 11.2.5 update patches a kernel-level exploit discovered by security researcher Russ Cox, and it purportedly works on iOS 11.2-11.2.1.

CoolStar releases beta 7 of the Electra jailbreak tool for iOS 11.0-11.1.2

If you’ve been keeping up with the latest jailbreak trends, then you might have heard about CoolStar’s Electra jailbreak tool for iOS 11.0-11.1.2. It doesn’t install Cydia or Mobile Substrate like a typical jailbreak tool would, but you could still use this jailbreak to install third-party extensions on your device via SSH.

A constant flow of updates since Electra’s initial release has provided the tool with necessary bug fixes. This week, users can take advantage of beta 7, which makes the jailbreak more stable and offers additional bells and whistles out of the box.

KeyUtilities, PullToClear, and other jailbreak tweaks to check out this weekend

While there weren’t many new jailbreak tweak releases to speak of last week, we did see a bit of a resurgence this week. Some of that extra activity may have been propagated by the release of the G0blin RC1 jailbreak tool for A7-A9 devices running iOS 10.3.x.

This roundup will cover all the new jailbreak tweaks that launched in Cydia this week. As always, we’ll start by featuring our favorites and then outline the rest afterward.

LiberiOS jailbreak tool for iOS 11.0-11.1.2 receives an update, but still no Cydia

Anyone paying attention to the state of the iOS 11 jailbreak as of late should already know about the LiberiOS semi-untethered jailbreak tool. Initially released back in December, LiberiOS utilizes the tfp0 exploit publicized by security researcher Ian Beer last year to pwn iOS 11.0-11.1.2 devices.

This weekend, LiberiOS received one of its first updates, bringing it up to version 11.0.3. Citing the tool's developer, Jonathan Levin (@Morpheus______), the new version squashes a few bugs found in the previous release, among other things.

PullToClear lets you clear pending notifications with a pull gesture

PullToClear is a new free jailbreak tweak by iOS developer CreatureSurvive that lets you quickly and effortlessly every unread notification from either Notification Center or the Lock screen.

Once installed, you can pull down from either interface to reveal the hidden “Pull To Clear” action, as shown above. Pulling down further reveals the “Release To Clear” action.

KeyUtilities brings configurable keyboard commands to iOS

Most iPhone and iPad users merely use their keyboard for typing inside of their apps, but with a new jailbreak tweak called KeyUtilities by iOS developer AlexK, you can use your keyboard to do so much more.

Right out of the box, KeyUtilities feels reminiscent of desktop-class keyboard shortcuts. On the other hand, it provides a bevy of iOS-centric features that you might find useful whether you’re a novice or a power-user.

BatteryStatus revives the old school Bluetooth device battery indicator in the Status Bar

Numerous modern Bluetooth devices report their battery levels inside of the Batteries widget found in Notification Center and to the left of the Home screen and Lock screen. On the other hand, it didn’t always work that way; Bluetooth devices used to report their battery levels in the Status Bar before Apple created this widget.

Anyone feeling nostalgic for the older Status Bar-based battery level display might enjoy a new free jailbreak tweak called BatteryStatus by iOS developer ipad_kid, as it revives this fan-favorite feature on later iterations of iOS.
