Simple Concept Gesture For Multitasking on the iPhone is Brilliant

Sometimes we see a concept video and think, "Wow, why hasn't Apple done this?" Such is the case with a simple multitasking gesture concept by UI designer Max Rudberg.

While the iPad offers multiple enhanced gestures for navigating through iOS, including 4-finger swipes and pinch moves, the iPhone still lacks basic gesture support that would make navigating so much easier. Rudberg's concept takes a very simple approach to reinventing the way we access the multitasking bar in iOS 5 on our iPhones.

10% of US Mobile Subscribers Own iPhones

A new survey carried about by comScore claims that only 1 out of 10 American mobile subscribers own an iPhone, with Apple's handset reaching the 10.8% mark as of October 2011.

The survey also suggests that Samsung is currently the top OEM in the country, with their phones currently in the hands of a quarter of all cellphone owners.

In fact, of the top five OEMs in comScore's chart, Apple sits fourth, behind Samsung (25.5%), LG (20.6%) and Motorola (13.6%). Canadian firm Research In Motion takes fifth place with an ever-decreasing share of the market. Not great times for BlackBerry fans at all...

iPhone 4S to Launch in Several More Countries December 16th

Last month, Apple rolled out its latest handset in 15 new countries, bringing the total number of eligible countries to 44. The company has said that it plans to have the iPhone 4S in more than 70 countries by the end of the year.

Bad Battery Life Issues Remain in iOS 5.1

Despite selling iPhones like they're going out of fashion, it's not been all unicorns and rainbows for Apple's big releases recently. Some of the company's top software outings have suffered a bloody nose as of late, with iCloud and iOS experiencing more than a few hiccups.

Syria Bans the iPhone in Effort to Block Protesters From Exposing Violence

In a move aimed at preventing Syrian protesters from capturing photos and videos of the violence in the country to in turn share with the rest of the world, Syria has officially banned the iPhone, as reported by The Next Web:

Syrian authorities have banned the use of iPhones in the country, restricting the use of the device by activists to document government violence, Lebanese website Al Nashara reports.

Activists within the country are now being served with notices from the Customs Department of the Syrian Finance Ministry, stating that iPhones are now banned. The notice reads: “The authorities warn anyone against using the iphone in Syria.”

Over 4,000 civilians have died since the beginning of 2011 in Syria, all of them killed by their own government.

“Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies” Now in the App Store

Activision has released Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies in the App Store. This the company's sequel to the popular Call of Duty: Zombies game. This version of the game is very similar to its console/PC counterparts.

Gameplay features some of the same levels, except the iOS version gives you a couple of more customization options. Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies also has up to 4-person multiplayer support via Game Center and Voice Chat.

Samsung Continues Anti-Apple Campaign with “Old School” Facebook Ad

Last week, Samsung started airing its latest TV ad which not-so-subtly poked fun at iPhone users. The commercial showed a group of young adults, waiting in what appeared to be a line for the new iPhone, drooling over a Galaxy S II handset.

A lot of folks dismissed the advert as bad marketing, as you typically don't want to criticize the audience you are trying to attract. But judging by its Facebook page, it seems the commercial was only the beginning of Samsung's anti-Apple campaign...
