Wondering when the next iPhone will launch? Ask a Foxconn employee

We know, we know. The iPhone 4S has barely been out for 6 months now, and rumors of the next handset are already getting out of control. Just this morning we've heard gossip regarding the unannounced device's appearance and internals.

And now we're looking at another report from South Korea's Maeil Business Newspaper that claims to know when the next iPhone is going to land. According to its "source," we can expect Apple to unveil its new handset in October of this year...

Facebook acquires Instagram for a staggering $1 billion

This is pretty crazy: Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerberg just announced that the social network has acquired Instagram for a staggering $1 billion in cash and stock.

Instagram, once an iPhone-exclusive photo sharing service, has around 30 million users, that upload around 5 million photos per day. Keep reading for the full press release...

Rumor: next iPhone to feature redesigned unibody case and 4-inch display

It seems like we've seen a flurry of iPhone-related rumors today. Earlier, we learned that Apple has begun internally seeding sixth-generation iPhone prototypes with 1GB of RAM and a modified A5X chip. And now we're finding out about its appearance.

As noted by AppleInsider, Topeka Capital Markets analyst Brian White issued a note to investors this morning regarding information he picked up during a recent trip to Asia. And judging from what he learned, Apple is completely rebuilding the iPhone...

Here’s how to use AT&T’s online chat to unlock your iPhone

So yeah, I was lazy. Unlike Cody, I don't have the patience to wait on hold, or be placed in a revolving door of automated prompts. It was either head directly to the store, or give AT&T's technical support chat a try.

Thankfully, AT&T's technical support chat has a pretty good track record with me; I figured I'd give that a try before deciding to burn a gallon of gas to head to the closest AT&T store. Would they even be open on a holiday anyway?

At the end of the day, I'm glad I decided on this method. In less than 10 minutes the unlocking process for my iPhone was initiated, saving me time, gas money, and a potential headache.

Whereas it took Cody about 20 minutes to initiate his iPhone 4 unlock, it took me less than 10 minutes. Folks, it really doesn't get any simpler than this...

Confirmed: AT&T now unlocking out of contract iPhones

On Friday, a rumor surfaced that AT&T was going to start unlocking out of contract iPhones for its subscribers. This is a big departure from the typical trials and tribulations you have to go through to unlock the handset, so we had to test it out.

I'm an AT&T customer, with an iPhone 4 that's been out of contract for quite some time, so I decided to give the carrier a call. And sure enough — at least judging from my experience — the company appears to be unlocking old iPhones...

Rockstar’s Max Payne to land on iOS April 12th

Attention iOS gamers, Rockstar — the makers of hit titles like Grand Theft Auto – has just announced that it will be bringing its popular third person shooter Max Payne to iOS this month.

The Payne franchise has had quite a run in the PC/console gaming realm, selling more than 7.5 million copies. And Rockstar is hoping that its popularity will transfer over into the iOS platform...

AT&T to start unlocking off-contract iPhones this Sunday

Unlocking your iPhone can be a fairly tricky task. Unless you pay in upwards of $600 for a factory-unlocked handset, you could be required to jailbreak or even purchase a third-party SIM mod to use your iPhone on multiple carriers.

But according to Engadget, that could change this Sunday for AT&T customers. The site is reporting that it has received an anonymous tip that the US carrier will start unlocking off-contract iPhones starting April 8th...

Security hole in Facebook app could lead to identity theft

Folks who use Facebook's iOS app might want to make sure to stay away from using public computers and charging stations for a while. Apparently a serious security glitch has been discovered in the software that could give hackers access to your account.

Security researcher Gareth Wright published a blog post yesterday that has raised some serious questions about how iOS developers are handling saved values — logins, etc. It seems that some apps are saving this data in plain, unencrypted text files...

Apple reportedly reaches settlement over search for iPhone 4S prototype

In the months leading up to the iPhone 4S launch, Apple lost a prototype of the handset. It seemed like it was going to be the iPhone 4/Gizmodo debacle all over again, but no pictures or other evidence ever surfaced.

Apple took some heat over the way it handled its search for the device, allegedly raiding the home of Sergio Calderon with a team of police officers. In fact, Sergio threatened to file a lawsuit against the company unless a settlement was reached.

Well here we are, more than 6 months later, and no lawsuit has been filed...

Google CEO says Steve Jobs’ hatred for Android was “actually for show”

Steve Jobs' distain for Google's mobile OS was well documented. There's a famous quote from the late CEO's biography that goes something like, "I'm going to destroy Android, because it's a stolen product. I'm willing to go thermonuclear war on this."

But according to Google's CEO Larry Page, a large part of Jobs' hatred for Android was merely for show. He believes that it was more of a way to rally his troops at Apple, rather than evidence of bad blood between the two companies...

One in three U.S. high school students own an iPhone

So this is pretty interesting: Gene Munster, Piper Jaffray's senior Apple analyst, published a report yesterday claiming that one in three U.S. high school students now own an iPhone.

The data comes from the firm's semi-annual survey of U.S. teens, in which they poll over 5,500 high school students to see what technology they're currently in to...

Apple to add sixth US carrier partner later this month [updated]

Earlier today we told you that nTelos had landed the iPhone. The Virginia-based regional carrier is scheduled to start offering the handset on Friday, April 20th.

But apparently it's not the only US carrier partner Apple is adding this month. Alaska Communications has also announced today that it will soon be offering the smartphone...
