iOS 6 no longer lets you gift apps on iOS devices

It's been widely reported that Apple dropped stock YouTube and Google Maps app in iOS 6. I'm not really sure how nobody noticed this before, but it's been reported that Apple did kill another handy feature: the ability to gift apps.

The removal of the gifting capability affects mobile App Store storefronts running on iPhones, iPads and iPod touches as users can still gift apps using desktop iTunes on a Mac or PC. Apple itself confirmed the change and it's unknown when (or if, for that matter) the feature will return to iOS 6...

For some, screen flickers when the iPhone 5 keyboard pops up

Following the purple haze camera issue, the WiFi bug affecting cellular data usage, Scuffgate, Mapgate, light leaks and other teething problems, some early adopters are now reporting a new glitch related to the iPhone 5's virtual keyboard.

Apparently, it's randomly inconveniencing an unknown proportion of users whose device exhibits an annoying glitch where some parts of the keyboard show random noise and broken lines, like old TV sets attuned to the snow white frequency...

Rovio to release Angry Birds Star Wars on November 8

Forgive Rovio for milking the Angry Birds franchise for all its worth, but if it hadn't been for the original Angry Birds game no one would have heard of a small Finnish game developer that was struggling to make a living making games you never heard about. Hot on the heels of releasing Bad Piggies and Angry Birds Space, Rovio has just announced a broad partnership with Hasbro, a toy and board game company.

The mash-up will see Rovio release a range of Star Wars and Angry Birds figurines, costumes, plush toys and a brand new Angry Birds game set in the Star Wars universe. More information and a teaser trailer follow right after the break...

Apple’s Lightning to 30-pin adapters now shipping

Good news today for folks who ordered, or were thinking about ordering, a Lightning to 30-pin adapter from Apple. Reports are coming in that the first round orders began shipping yesterday.

As you know, Apple debuted a new charging port in its new iPhone and iPod products last month. And until now, you couldn't find an adapter that made old accessories work with the new port...

Apple responds to ‘purple haze’ iPhone 5 camera complaints

In addition to the back panel scratching and light leak complaints, early iPhone 5 purchasers have spotted another flaw in Apple's latest handset: a purple haze or halo is appearing in some photos taken with its rear camera.

Over the past few weeks, users have been reporting that when the iPhone 5's iSight camera is pointed at or near a bright light source, a purple flare appears in the photo. And this weekend, Apple responded to the issue...

AT&T reportedly cutting return and cancelation period to 14 days

Just a heads up for folks looking to make an AT&T-flavored purchase in the coming weeks. The word on the street is that the carrier is about to cut its 30-day return policy in half.

A new report is out today claiming that AT&T has sent out a memo to its employees reminding them that the return period for products and services drops down to 14 days tomorrow...

Thousands of Foxconn workers go on strike over iPhone 5 production

When Apple introduced the iPhone 5, it noted: "We've developed manufacturing processes that are our most complex and ambitions. Never before have we built a product with this extraordinary level of fit and finish."

While the end result of these complex methods — i.e. the iPhone 5 — appears to be making customers happy, the processes themselves seem to be causing problems at the factories. A new report is out this afternoon that thousands of Foxconn workers have gone on strike due to issues with iPhone 5 production...

Apple’s Maps app starting to show signs of improvement

It appears that Apple is making good on Tim Cook's promise. Just a week after the CEO posted an open letter regarding the shortcomings of the new Maps application, users are starting to see improvements.

EE to launch the UK’s first LTE network on October 30

Folks in the UK who recently purchased an iPhone 5 will be happy to hear that in less then a month, they'll finally be able to use the handset to its full potential. It's official: the country's first LTE network will go live on October 30.

The network belongs to EE (Everything Everywhere), which is a joint venture between Orange and T-Mobile. And the new 4G service will be available to existing customers on either of the two carriers, and obviously, new ones...

Apple rolls out TV shows in the Cloud to Germany and Switzerland
