iOS 5.1 Beta 3 Brings Back “Enable 3G” Toggle

Earlier this morning, Apple seeded iOS 5.1 beta 3 to developers. At a glance, the update looked like your typical bug fix and maintenance release. But folks have already uncovered a new feature.

It's not exactly new. iOS has long since had the ability to toggle 3G data on and off. However it has been absent in recent software releases, and now it looks like beta 3 has brought it back...

Why I Picked the iPhone 4S: It’s All About Sacrifices

I'm the son of a former Nokia employee, an ex cell phone salesman, and current connoisseur. So I guess you can say that I've played with my fair share of smartphones.

And in my several-year quest to find the perfect handset, I've tried everything from the Nokia 7650 to the latest Android and WP7 devices. But I've only found one phone capable of being my everyday driver.

As you've probably already guessed by now, that phone is the iPhone. No, I'm not an Apple "fanboy" that blindly buys whatever the company releases. I just want the best handset available. And for me, that's the handset that requires me to make the least amount of sacrifices...

The iPhone 4S Jailbreak: What We Know So Far

In collaboration with pod2g, both the Dev Team and the Chronic Dev Team released untether exploits for iOS 5.0.1 at the end of last year. The release was great news for A4 device owners, but left iPad 2 and iPhone 4S users in the dark.

However, as most of you know, pod2g is currently hard at work on a full jailbreak for A5 devices. And with the help of some of the jailbreak community's biggest names, it looks like the infamous iOS hacker is making some real progress...

iPhone 4S Still Top-Seller for Sprint, Verizon and AT&T During December

December was another great month for iPhone sales, according to research by Canaccord Genuity analyst Mike Walkley and his crack team of number crunchers, with all three major US carriers seeing the new iPhone 4S top their sales charts.

Two months after its initial release on Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon, the iPhone 4S is still the best-seller for all three of the carriers that offer the handset in the United States, with two Android phones helping make up the top three, the Samsung Galaxy S II and the newer Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

Less surprisingly, the top-selling tablet device in the United States was the iPad 2, with the cheaper Amazon Kindle Fire being its nearest competitor. We expect the tablet landscape to alter during 2012 however, with more Android and Windows 8 machines offering more competition for Apple's device...

Analysts Predict Apple Sold 35 Million iPhones Over the Holidays

After a disappointing [define disappointing] third quarter last year, Apple's CEO Tim Cook made one of the boldest projections in the company's history: Apple is going to sell 30 million iPhones and hit $37 billion in revenue in Q4 of 2011.

To put these numbers in perspective, Apple only sold 17 million iPhones in Q3 of last year, hitting just $28.3 billion in revenue. So you can see why some folks were taken a back by Cook's predictions. But hey, anything can happen, right?

iPhone 4S Users Consume Double the Data of iPhone 4 Users

As wireless carriers have started cracking down on data usage, users have become more conscious of their megabytes. So much so that many smartphone owners have resorted to using applications to keep track of their activity.

It looks like data-conscious users who are still contemplating snagging Apple's latest handset may have reason to worry. A new report shows that iPhone 4S owners use about double the data of that of iPhone 4 owners...

iPhone Owners Complaining of Mysterious Mute Bug on Outbound Calls

Apple launched its latest handset, the iPhone 4S, in October of last year. And while the company seems to have corrected the infamous antenna problem, the device has still had its fair share of issues.

From its poor battery life — which is more than likely iOS 5 related — to its Sprint data speed troubles, users have had multiple complaints regarding the handset. And now it looks like we can add another problem to the list...

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek Shows Off Voice-Controlled iOS App

It looks like Spotify CEO Daniel Ek is a self proclaimed "Siri-holic" after the streaming outfit's head man waxed lyrical about his love for Apple's digital assistant.

But that's not all. During an interview for Forbes, Ek gave a sneak peek at a potential new feature that could be on its way to the Spotify iPhone app at some point in the future. When asked about the possibility of voice activation coming to Spotify, Ek picked up his iPhone and requested a dose of Coldplay.

Naturally the handset obliged, though God only knows why Ek wanted to hear Coldplay at all. Regardless, the news that Spotify is working on voice recognition will come as a late Christmas present for fans of the streaming music service...
