Imgur releases brand new iPhone client for browsing the fascinating world of animated GIFs

After releasing its inaugural iOS app back in 2013 only to remove it from the App Store less than a year later over numerous user complaints, Imgur on Thursday tried its luck again and released a brand new iPhone application.

Unlike the now-defunct app that offered a spartan web view of the mobile Imgur website, the newly released client does feature sleek appearance and native performance.

That it puts the millions of the web’s memes in the palm of your hand (and will soon make it easy to upload your own GIFs to the service) doesn't hurt it either.

Asphalt 8 gains car decals, new Ferraris and car collections, revamped garage and more

This morning, French games maker and publisher Gameloft pushed out an update to Asphalt 8: Airborne, its arcade-y racer for the iPhone and iPad.

The download brings out car decals (the most requested feature) and five new Ferrari sports cars that Gameloft says you'll be able to drive “soon”. On top of that, the garage has been redesigned from the ground up and there are new car collections to enjoy now.

The update is available now on iOS and is coming soon on Android and Windows 8.

Popular golf arcade game ‘Golden Tee’ coming to iOS this summer

Golden Tee fans rejoice, Incredible Technologies is bringing the popular arcade golf game to iOS this year. As noted by TouchArcade, the team has been quietly showing off a demo version of the game at this year's Game Developers Conference (or GDC).

For those of you not familiar with Golden Tee, it's the golf game you've seen in the corner of virtually every bar ever. It's an in-depth golf game with beautiful graphics, easy-to-learn controls and the arcade version utilizes a track ball for swing/ball direction.

SXSW GO updated with iBeacon notifications and other new features

The official mobile app of South by Southwest (SXSW), a set of film, interactive and music festivals and conferences that take place annually in mid-March in Austin, Texas, has been refreshed with a few new features.

Among them is an enhanced experience allowing your device to receive iBeacon notifications to see what's going on around you and who else is there. This year's show will feature the world’s largest deployment of iBeacons.

Mortal Kombat X is hitting iOS this April

More than two decades following its 1992 debut on the the Genesis, SNES and arcades, Mortal Kombat, a video game franchise developed by Midway Games' Chicago studio, is about to go mobile with the impending release of Mortal Kombat X for iOS and Android, as first noted by Eurogamer.

Developed by NetherRealm Studios, the game will be published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, which acquired the Mortal Kombat development team in 2011 and now owns the rights of the series.

Apple highlighting indie game sales in featured App Store section

Apple is currently highlighting several indie game sales in a new featured App Store section called 'Amazing Indie Games.' Users can find the section by visiting the 'Featured' section of the App Store and tapping on the banner image you see above.

All of the games listed in the section are made by independent developers (an individual or small team), and are being discounted by at least 50% for a limited time. Titles include Space Age: A Cosmic Adventure, Battleheart Legacy, Rules! and more.

Google Maps update adds Local Guides, detailed POI/venue info and more

The Internet giant Google on Friday issued a refresh to its native mapping application for the iPhone and iPad, adding Local Guides and a couple other nice-to-haves.

A global community of the top reviewers on Google, Local Guides now appear in Google Maps 4.3 for iOS.

You can also add transit directions to your calendar.

Search has been improved, too, with the ability to search for event information for select venues, nearby businesses based on their address and even retrieve fun facts about popular points of interest.

iA Writer, the popular iOS/Mac app for focused writing, launches on Android

iA Writer, one of the best and most popular iPhone, iPad and Mac applications for distraction-free writing on the go, has been ported to Android and is now available for download in the Play store.

German developer Information Architects GmbH broke the news in a blog post earlier today. Like the iOS edition, iA Writer for Android is a paid download costing five bucks.

On Android, the app sports the familiar, polished interface with Focus Mode that highlights the current sentence being written. It also syncs with Dropbox and does Markdown — again, just like its iOS counterpart does.

Tweetbot developer lays out iOS and Mac app roadmap, makes Weightbot free

Today, developer Tapbots has shared some updates concerning state of development of its popular iOS and Mac Twitter client, Tweetbot, and the whole software lineup for that matter.

For starters, a completely redesigned Tweetbot 2.0 for Mac with Yosemite-friendly look and feel has been in the works for quite some time now. Tweetbot 4.0 for iOS is being readied as well.

“We are going to do a better job keeping our current apps up to date with each new OS release,” they promised. In addition, the company announced closing other projects in order to focus resources on upcoming (and long overdue) updates to Tweetbot for Mac and iPad.

Readdle’s Printer Pro goes zero bucks, courtesy of Apple’s Free App of the Week promo

Since its December 2011 debut, wireless printing software Printer Pro has never gone free, excluding a limited one-day promo last April.

That changes today as Apple's editors have now marked the iPhone and iPad application down to $0 (regularly $6.99), listing the app its Free App of the Week in the App Store's ongoing weekly promotion.

Created by Ukrainian developer Readdle, Printer Pro has been downloaded two million times. It's a great app that lets you print attachments, documents, web pages and more right from your iPhone or iPad to any printer.

It automatically finds and connects to a printer on your Wi-Fi network. You can even connect to a USB printer if you install a free helper desktop app on your Mac or PC.

Numerous gains Google Sheets, Tesla and Celestial Events channels and other perks

Numerous for iOS has been updated with three new channels today: Google Sheets, Tesla and Celestial Events, including SpaceX.

The Sheets channel is of particular importance as you can track any number or date in a Google spreadsheet. For instance, you could track changes to your checking account balance, your company's monthly recurring revenue and even the results of a survey created using Google Forms.

Of course, it's just as easy to track any other number or date in a Google Sheets spreadsheet. You can even elect to be notified when values change or exceed a threshold you set.

Adonit stylus maker launches Forge, visual thinking app for iPad

Adonit, the maker of precision styluses for the iPad, released its first iOS application aimed at artists and creative professionals in a need of a digital storyboard to form their thoughts, draw sketches, express their ideas and more.

Available at no cost in the App Store, Forge for iPad works with your finger and fully supports the features of the company's Jot Touch styluses, like pressure sensitivity, palm rejection and custom shortcuts.
