New 3D Touch shortcuts for stock apps in iOS 9.3

In addition to a few headlining features revealed in the first beta of iOS 9.3—such as Night Shift mode, Notes protection with Touch ID, improvements for the Health app and other goodies—proud iPhone 6s owners will be happy to learn about a bunch of new 3D Touch-enabled shortcuts for Apple's stock apps.

Ranging from Settings to App Store to Health and more, half a dozen apps have either gained 3D Touch shortcuts for the first time or introduced new ones in the menu that appear after pressing an icon on the Home screen.

iOS 9 now powers three quarters of active devices

Apple's iOS 9 operating system is currently powering three out of each four iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices in the wild, according to the latest stats as measured by the App Store on January 11, 2016.

That's a four-point gain over the 71 percent adoption rate for iOS 9 reported a month ago, a notable increase due to no doubt strong sales in the holiday quarter.

How to quickly email the full text of an article in Safari

Safari on the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad allows you to post article links to social media and share them through third-party apps that have implemented support for iOS's multi-purpose Share sheet.

But sharing a link won't cut it were you to send the full text of the article in an email message. Selecting everything on a webpage and pasting into Mail isn't the best of solutions because all of the images and other non-related webpage elements get carried over, resulting in a messy email.

Thankfully, there's a better way to accomplish such a seemingly simple task. In this tutorial, we're going to discuss emailing the full, richly formatted text of an article in Safari, without all the clutter.

How to adjust the Home screen dock opacity on iOS [jailbreak]

DockAlpha is a new jailbreak tweak that allows you to adjust the dock alpha settings on iOS 9. The tweak, which is available free of charge on Cydia's BigBoss repo, lends a more transparent look to the dock for jailbroken iOS 9 users. If you're looking to subtly change the look of the iOS Home screen, you may want to give DockAlpha a try.

Apple seeds iOS 9.2.1 beta 2 to developers

Less than three weeks after releasing the first beta of iOS 9.2.1, Apple on Monday seeded iOS 9.2.1 beta 2 to its registered developers. The software is also available to public beta testers who are signed on Apple's Beta Software Program,

The new pre-release software has a build number of 13D14 and can be applied over-the-air on iPhones, iPads and iPods running a prior beta via Software Update.

A standalone firmware download is available to members of the Apple Developer Program through the company's official portal for developers.

How to temporarily hide iOS 9’s stock app icons, no jailbreak required

Aside from disabling the iTunes Store, iBooks Store and Podcasts apps on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad using iOS's Restrictions feature, Apple doesn't yet provide an officially sanctioned way of removing stock apps from your Home screen.

This can be particularly annoying for people who rely on third-party alternatives to Apple's default apps like Reminders, Maps or Calendar.

My preferred way of working around this limitation involves tucking away any unwanted stock app inside a “Junk” folder. Thankfully, YouTubber Jose Rodriguez has found a better way to temporarily hide icons of Apple's stock apps on iOS versions from iOS 9 onward using a simple trick that doesn't require a jailbreak.

Apple on the hook for $5+ million over hindered performance of older iPhones with iOS 9

Apple is under fire over planned obsolescence concerning the iOS 9 software update, with a new class-action lawsuit accusing the company of intentionally slowing older iPhone models with the update, AppleInsider reported Wednesday.

Filed with a New York district court on Tuesday, the lawsuit also accuses Apple of deceptive trade practices and false advertising which assured customers that iOS 9 would run fine on older handsets dating back to four-year-old iPhone 4s models without stating that the upgrade would cripple legacy handsets severely.

Seng 1.2 now available on Cydia

Seng, the Auxo-inspired App Switcher replacement for jailbroken iOS devices, is now available for download on Cydia. The tweak has been in beta for the last few weeks, but today it is available to all jailbroken iOS 9 users.

We've already covered version 1.2 of Seng in depth via our hands-on video review, and we found a tweak that was well worth consideration. Better yet, if you already purchased the iOS 8 compatible version of Seng, the this latest iOS 9 compatible version can be had as a free update.

How to add the native iOS share sheet to the YouTube app [jailbreak]

It's almost 2016, and the official YouTube app is still relying on its antiquated built-in sharing options instead of the native iOS 9 share sheet that most modern apps use on the platform. Sadly, Google insists on keeping its design language in many of its apps, even though it looks out of place on iOS. Not only that, but YouTube's built-in sharing options are a lot less functional and flexible.

With Native YouTube Share, a free jailbreak tweak available on Cydia's BigBoss repo, you can force the YouTube app to use the stock iOS 9 sharing sheet when sharing videos.

iOS 9 now installed on 71 percent of devices

According to fresh new stats from Apple's App Store dashboard for developers, iOS 9 is now powering 71 percent of iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices in active use, a one-percentage point gain versus the 70 percent milestone recorded two weeks ago.

iOS 8 continues declining as a result, dropping from 22 percent two weeks ago to 21 percent of iOS hardware as of yesterday, indicating that much of iOS 9's growth in the 14-day period came from users upgrading to iOS 8 and new iPhone buyers.

Seng: even in beta, it’s the best App Switcher tweak for jailbroken iOS 9 devices [video]

If you're looking for an App Switcher replacement for iOS 9, then look no further than Seng, the currently in-beta Auxo-inspired tweak from developer Charlie Hewitt. We first told you about Seng's recent beta a few days ago, but since then, I've been able to go hands-on with the tweak.

What I found was a tweak that worked much like the original version of Seng released back in the summer time. The big difference here is that Seng now plays nice with iOS 9, a feat that's likely harder than it looks given the state of Auxo 3.
