You can tell we're getting closer and closer to WWDC 2013, because the concept videos for the next version of iOS seem to be popping up every day. This latest video shows off a new way to toggle settings, kill apps, open folders, and check notifications. It's a pretty impressive video, but the features don't seem to be very practical for real world usage if you ask me.

The idea is somewhat similar to Velox, which I still prefer over this concept. At this point, it's clear that iOS 7 needs an easy way to access toggles. Will Apple make it happen? That's the question.

Word has it that iOS 7 is going be receiving a system-wide makeover, courtesy of the human interface team's new leader Jony Ive. The changes are reportedly so big that developers with 'carry' privileges have a filter on their devices to conceal them.
Of course, we won't know what iOS 7 really looks like until Apple unveils it this summer. But that's not going to stop designers from creating concepts that illustrate what they think it could look like. And we've got another great one for you today...
While we've heard plenty of chatter regarding the next-generation iPhone, we've heard next to nothing about the next version of iOS. Until today, that is. New information concerning iOS 7 popped up this afternoon in an interesting Branch thread.

Remember webOS? Say what you will about Palm, but the HP-acquired firm has pioneered what's arguably the most efficient implementation of multitasking on a mobile device to this date (no jailbreak required, of course). For those not in the know, the webOS multitasking metaphor is a stack of cards which represents your running tasks.
Each card can be moved around, dismissed and manipulated with a flick of your finger. It's a remarkably fun and engaging solution to efficiently interact with your apps, one which gets the job done while moving out of the way. Designer Jesse Head took that idea and applied it to the problematic iOS multitasking tray, replacing the boring grid of icons with app tiles sporting nearly full-screen live previews. It appears as useful as it's gorgeous to look at, no?
Those hoping that Jony Ive's new role as the head of Apple's Human Interface design team will have a sooner-than-later impact on the user interface of its mobile operating system will be happy to hear that this may indeed be the case.
A new report by The Wall Street Journal this afternoon claims that Ive is now sitting in on the human interface team's review sessions to assess new design ideas, and is reportedly pushing for a more "flat design" UI in future iOS releases...

This is kind of interesting. A new job posting has been spotted on Apple's website that calls for a Frameworks QA engineer that will help develop the "very first iPhone/iPad app that uses a new API/framework in the next version of iOS."
Now, Apple always adds new APIs/frameworks to new versions of iOS. But the interesting part here is that it directly refers to the development of a new iPhone/iPad app that directly depends on whatever this new API/framework is...
One of the annoying quirks of iOS is there's no way to quickly toggle battery-draining and data-thirsty features and services we like to use selectively. Of course, that's without jailbreaking. Considering BossPrefs (the precursor to SBSettings) was released in 2007, it's about time Apple caught up with the demand for an official quick toggle panel. But how would Apple approach the problem?
Jean-Marc Denis posted one possibility to Dribbble. It's a concept called 'Lock Screen Drawer', which would allow users to access toggles by pulling on a tab under the lock screen clock. Pull the tab, and a small tray slides out. In the concept, the tray is equipped with toggles for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, airplane mode, and hotspot. We'd like to see GPS on the list too, so hopefully there would be a way to customize the toggles...
Remember the iOS concept video we saw earlier this week from André Luis Moreira? It turns out that Moreira had just posted an updated version of the concept on The Verge's forums. The updated concept is similar to what we've already seen, but features essential refinements to the original design, in addition to being resized to fit the iPhone 5's 4-inch screen.
