Proposed Next-gen iPhone Components Reveal Similar Design to Current Model

We've said it before. With so little known about the unreleased iPhone this year, expect to see non-stop speculation regarding Apple's next smartphone. While last year, we knew almost everything about the device, we're not even totally positive there is going to be one this year.

The latest bit of gossip comes from ModMyi, who have posted a photograph of an iPhone 5 component. The snapshot comes from an Italian blog which, thanks to Google Translate, claims they have actual photos of parts used in the next iPhone...

Apple Will Call the Next iPhone “4S?”

We've heard iPhone 5, 4G, 4GS, and 4S as possible names for Apple's next gen iPhone. Recently, select develepors started receiving iPhone '4S' prototypes for testing purposes. There's even been some leaked images of what is an alleged iPhone 4S with a slightly larger screen than the iPhone 4.

Following other hints that the next iPhone will be called the "4S," an industry analyst from Jefferies has reported that Apple will indeed call the device the iPhone 4S.

Will Apple call the next gen iPhone the 4G? Most have been calling the unannounced device the iPhone 5, but recent reports speculate that Apple could end up calling it the 4s (like the 3GS).

AT&T has changed its 4G nomenclature to include devices that previously weren't fast enough to be considered "4G." In AT&T's latest series of marketing campaigns, they have started to call slower devices "4G." The devices that are referenced by AT&T posses the same speeds as what is expected from the next iPhone.

According to an employee of an Apple parts supplier, there is reason to believe that the iPhone 5 will actually be two devices: a 'standard' and 'pro' model.

According to NPD's quarterly results on U.S smartphone sales, the availability of the iPhone on Verizon Wireless not only bumped Apple to the third largest phone seller in the U.S, but also helped eat into Android's market share for the first time since 2009.

CDMA iPhone 4 Not as Popular as Apple Expected

It looks like the Verizon iPhone isn't holding up to Apple's expectations. According to a report from DigiTimes, Apple has significantly reduced the production of CDMA/Verizon iPhone 4s in 2011.

DigiTimes reports that Apple has cut down production of the CDMA iPhone 4 from the originally expected 10 million units, down to only 5 million units...

Either there are some really good counterfeits out there, or Apple is having serious problems holding onto their prototypes. In the past few weeks we've seen multiple snapshots of different unreleased iPhone models in the wild.

We saw the video of one running an unreleased version of iOS from Vietnam and then a gallery of snapshots of another on BGR. Now, 9to5Mac has discovered another prototype making its way around the internet. This time, the source is eBay, and their not just offering leaked photos, their offering the whole phone...

As we get closer to WWDC this year, expect next generation iPhone 5 rumors to really pick up (as if they haven't already). Apple's annual developers conference is set for June 6th and promises to unveil iOS 5 and hopefully provide information on the next iPhone.

The white iPhone 4 certainly seems to be coming this week. Mounds of evidence point to an April 27th launch date for the infamous Apple smartphone, including Best Buy inventory screenshots and even leaked photos of a T-Mobile branded white iPhone 4.

Or was it an iPhone 4? More details have come to light about the mysterious device that appeared on BGR's website yesterday. The phone looked very similar to a white iPhone 4, but appeared to be running on T-Mobile's network. Apparently its color and carrier weren't the only things that made this device unique...

Apple has already started testing prototype units of the next generation iPhone with "select" developers. We've already heard that the next iPhone will most likely sport Apple's powerful A5 processor, and 9to5Mac is reporting that the next iPhone will indeed boast the A5 chip.

The iPad 2 uses Apple's A5 processor, and Apple is bringing the A5 to the iPhone in order to improve gaming performance. Big-name gaming companies are already testing an A5-equipped iPhone "4S" to get ready for the new device's launch.
