Apple releases updated version of iOS 9.3.2 for 9.7-inch iPad Pro

Nearly two weeks after pulling this version for bricking 9.7-inch iPad Pro devices, Apple has released iOS 9.3.2 today, presumably fixing the bricking issue once and for all. Carrying build number 13F72 this iOS 9.3.2 update is specifically for the 9.7-inch version of the iPad Pro. The update is now available both over the air, and as a separate download.

Cool-looking concept converts legendary Macintosh LC into a retro iPad Pro dock

German magazine Curved.de recently published an interesting mockup which envisions an iPad Pro dock with vintage Macintosh look complete with a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Released in the early 1990s, the Macintosh LC (“LC” stood for “low-cost color”) was the company's low-end, inexpensive Mac which due to its Apple II compatibility was adopted primarily in the education and home markets.

“For such a concept to prove beneficial, Apple would have to implement a modified version of its desktop operating system OS X on its Pro iPads,” writes the magazine.

Apple pulls iOS 9.3.2 update following 9.7″ iPad Pro bricking complaints

Following an avalanche of complaints from the affected 9.7-inch iPad Pro owners who saw their device bricked and reporting an iTunes error 56 after installing the latest iOS 9.3.2 software update, Apple has now pulled iOS 9.3.2 for that device from its servers. As first noted by MacRumors 9.7-inch iPad Pro owners who have not installed iOS 9.3.2 no longer see the over-the-air update on their tablet.

Apple is ‘looking’ into reports of iOS 9.3.2 bricking some 9.7-inch iPad Pros

Following multiple complaints that the iOS 9.3.2 software update, which released two days ago, has bricked some 9.7-inch iPad Pro models with ‘Error 56’, Apple today acknowledged that it's aware of these reports and is “looking” into them.

Although Apple's statement to iMore does not make it clear whether the company has pinpointed what might be causing this issue, the company did advise those unable to restore their device through iTunes to contact its support team.

iOS 9.3.2 reportedly bricking some 9.7-inch iPad Pro models with ‘Error 56’

It appears that today's iOS 9.3.2 update is causing problems for some 9.7-inch iPad Pro owners. As noted by MacRumors, a number of users have taken to Twitter and other forums to complain that the firmware bricked their tablets shortly after installing the over-the-air update.

More specifically, users are seeing an "Error 56" message, which instructs you to plug your device into iTunes. According to some of those who have received the error, however, plugging the tablet into your computer and trying to restore through iTunes doesn't resolve the issue.

DisplayMate: 9.7″ iPad Pro has a ‘truly impressive’ display, much better than iPad Air 2’s

An in-depth analysis of Apple's latest display technology conducted by DisplayMate has shown that the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro is outfitted with “a truly impressive” Retina display, which DisplayMate described as a “major upgrade” over that used in the iPad Air 2.

The 9.7-inch iPad Pro, DisplayMate has found, delivers “color accuracy that is visually indistinguishable from perfect”.

Quick thoughts on the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro

Successfully transitioning from a Mac or PC to an iPad depends largely on what you need it for, and how far you're willing to go out of your way to make it work. Personally, I've always doubted the iPad can be a replacement for a Mac, at least for what I do, as I'm sure some people have successfully made the switch without looking back.

This said, I'm not really looking at the iPad Pro as a laptop replacement. To me, it's still a tablet that I will mostly use to read and reply to emails, browse the web, check Twitter, and catch up with my RSS feed. However, I have started to get out of my comfort zone and try to do simple work-related tasks on it, just to put the Pro moniker to the test.

It's in this state of mind that I will share my first impressions of this new iPad with you. It's not a review per say. There are dozens of these reviews online, many of them very detailed. Instead, I will share some quick thoughts and remarks about my first few days with this new iPad.

iFixit: 9.7-inch iPad Pro uses ‘gobs of adhesive’, making repair ‘miserable’

Repair wizards over at iFixit have torn apart Apple's new 9.7-inch iPad Pro (model A1673) only to discover that the device is extremely difficult to repair due to “gobs of adhesive” used to keep the components secured in place.

In addition to copious adhesive, the device's smaller form factor, the addition of four speakers and some “weird cabling choices” have earned the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro a sad 2 out of 10 repairability score, same as the original iPad Air and a point less than the first iPad Pro. “We think this is the most glue we’ve seen in an iPad to date, making repair miserable,” concluded iFixit.
