An Exclusive Look Inside Apple’s Smart Sign

Yesterday, I went to the Apple Store with a mission: to get an inside peek at what was behind Apple's own Smart Sign application. If you don't know what a Smart Sign is, it is an iPad with a special app that shows product specs.

This app can't be exited with the home button, it can only be closed with a secret gesture. I did some peeking around, and I found some interesting things.

Apple Finally Has iPad 2 Shipments Under Control

It seems like a long time ago since This is my next reported on the possibility of an iPad HD this year. 3rd-generation Apple tablet rumors have been running rampant. The next-gen iPad is expected to sport a screen with double the resolution of its predecessor, and debut sometime this fall.

Though the gossip is getting stronger, you can't help but be skeptical, as Apple's never released products in 6-8 month increments. Not only that, but how can they expect to ship a new tablet when they can barely make enough of the previous version to go around?

New in iOS 5: AirPlay Mirroring for FaceTime

Apple has come up with some remarkable technology over the last few years, AirPlay and FaceTime to name a few. AirPlay allows users to sling media from their iDevices to the big screen via an Apple TV, and FaceTime enables one-tap video calling.

What would happen if you combined the two technologies? According to TiPb, you would get a unique video chatting experience that can be shared by everyone in the room. Meet the latest iOS 5 feature to surface, FaceTime via AirPlay mirroring...

Apple Store iPad Display Gets Jailbroken [Video]

Comex's new exploit is easily the best jailbreaking tool ever developed. Not only is it much faster than previous methods, it's as easy to use as downloading an app.

Another reason JailbreakMe comes out on top is that you don't need a computer to run the software. Everything is done from the device. This creates an interesting dynamic for jailbreaking, because now you can do it almost anywhere. Even in an Apple Store...

iPad 2 Now Shipping from Apple in 3-5 Business Days

Since the iPad 2's launch in March, Apple has been facing extreme supply shortages from its manufacturers overseas. The iPad 2 has been flying off the shelves faster than the production line can handle, and part of this problem is due to the recent earthquake disaster in Japan.

For the past couple months, shipping dates for the iPad 2 on Apple's online store were set at 1-2 weeks. Despite the iPad 2's continual high consumer demand, Apple has managed to start shipping the sensational tablet in the normal 3-5 business day timeframe...

Apple Getting Ready to Bring iPad HD to Market?

This Fall could see the release of a new, high-spec iPad model aimed squarely at the professional market, if claims by This is my next are correct.

In a post on the placeholder site for the former Engadget crew, Joshua Topolsky explains that the team's sources claim this Fall will bring a new entry into the iPad family, with the new device receiving the 'iPad HD' designation.

But what's so interesting about this new entry into a fast-growing tablet market? Well, the clue is in the name...

JailbreakMe 3.0 Now Live!

It's finally here, folks! Comex has released the highly anticipated JailbreakMe 3.0, code named Saffron. The web-based jailbreak works on all iDevices, including the iPad 2, on iOS 4.3.3, and iOS 4.3.3 only for the time being.

This userland jailbreak is super easy to perform straight on your iDevice, and Comex's PDF exploit will give you an untethered jailbreak for the iPad 2 via Mobile Safari.

You Can Jailbreak the iPad 2 on iOS 4.3.3 Right Now! [Unofficial Release]

As we await the release of Comex's JailbreakMe 3.0, a roundabout method has been uncovered for jailbreaking the iPad 2 on the latest version of iOS.

Comex's jailbreak got briefly leaked online over the holiday weekend, and a hacker named Ryan Vanniekerk has put together a complex tutorial on how to use the JailbreakMe 3.0 files to set up your own web-based exploit for all iDevices running iOS 4.3.3 and below!

Microsoft Kinect and iPad 2 Hacked Together in Holy Matrimony

Microsoft's Xbox 360 Kinect is currently the tech world's darling when it comes to hacking. The device's twin cameras and infra-red sensing abilities mean the Kinect is fully fitted for all kinds of hackery.

Apple's iPad is equally well-liked in the hacking community. A large screen, dual-core CPU, and huge install base make it a great tool for pushing boundaries.

With that in mind, you could be forgiven for thinking that if some clever people found a way to marry the two pieces of hardware together, we could be in for happenings of a cataclysmic nature - human sacrifice! Dogs and cats living together! Mass hysteria! (Ghostbusters, for those wondering where that came from.)

Thankfully though, you'd be wrong...

JailbreakMe 3.0 to Drop Today or Tomorrow?

It's been a seemingly endless saga as Comex prepares his upcoming jailbreak tool for the iPad 2. JailbreakMe 3.0 has been expected to drop any day now for the past few weeks, but several speed bumps and unexpected turns have kept the userland jailbreak from getting released.

This past weekend, JailbreakMe 3.0's exploit was leaked online in an attempt to hurry up Comex's official release. Some people were able to get to the download links in time (before they were pulled) and successfully jailbreak the iPad 2 on iOS 4.3.

Thanks to a string of alleged emails between Comex and MultiMediaWill (the guy that leaked JailbreakMe 3.0), the latest rumor pegs JailbreakMe's relaunch for tomorrow...

The Real Story Behind the iPad 2 Jailbreak Leak

Most of you know by now that Comex's long-awaited iPad 2 jailbreak was leaked yesterday. As the hacker was putting the finishing touches on JailbreakMe 3.0, the PDF exploit was leaked to the world. Someone publicly posted the new JailbreakMe files, and the links spread around the web like wildfire.

The original story iDB heard was that a trusted beta tester leaked the files. That would have meant Comex was betrayed by someone he trusted, adding insult to injury. We have since learned that this is not what actually happened. Here's the real story behind the iPad 2 jailbreak leak...
