Warning: New Facebook Scam Wants You to Believe in the iPhone 5

There is a new scam going on on Facebook right now, which involves you, your friends, and the yet to be released iPhone 5. Here is how it works. You see in your stream that one of your friends commented on an article titled "First Exposure: Apple iPhone 5." Because your friend commented on it and because you really want to know about this iPhone 5, you click on the link as well.

You are then directed to a domain ending in .info (that should be a bad sign in itself), where you are asked to enter a captcha code to prove you are human. That should really be a second warning that this is not so legit...

FBUploader Jailbreak Tweak Sends Pics Straight to Facebook From Photos App

If you've been looking for Facebook integration in iOS, a new jailbreak tweak called FBUploader allows you to upload photos straight from the iPhone's Camera Roll to Facebook. Typically, you would have to open the Facebook app, attach an image, add a caption, tags, etc. and upload from there.

With FBUploader installed on your jailbroken iPhone, you will have the option to upload to Facebook from inside the iPhone's Photos app...

Now that 4.3.3 jailbreaks are available, you may be looking for some new tweaks to improve your iPhone experience. Luckily, the jailbroken app store known as Cydia is chock-full of them.

One of the latest tweaks to enter the underground app store is a nice, tiny extension for your Facebook application. If you have always wanted an easy way to share your music with your Facebook friends, you may want to check this out...

Facebook Messenger for iPhone Allows You to Chat And Make Free Audio Calls Through VoIP

A new app called Facebook Messenger has been receiving a lot of attention in the press lately. It is the premiere app from the CrispApp developers.

I was a tad skeptical of Facebook Messenger when I first started reading about the app. There are a great deal of Facebook-related apps in the App Store, and I was curious about what made Facebook Messenger stand out.

Facebook Messenger is a clean and well-designed chat application for Facebook, but that's not all. The app also allows you to make free audio calls to your Facebook friends straight from your iPhone.

Status Updates Hidden from Live Feed and Missing Privacy Settings in Facebook App

A couple Facebook for iPhone bugs have been reported by disgruntled Facebook users. Two known problems have recently started surfacing within Facebook's official app: status updates from the iPhone are not being sent to the News Feed, and Facebook for iPhone is missing from users' privacy settings.

We have no information as to how widespread these problems are, but there has been enough complaint to justify these bugs as real issues.

Here are the details...

The 10 Best App Store Apps of 2010

The App Store has never been a very quiet place. 2010 was no exception; thousands upon thousands of new apps were submitted to the App Store. Most of them aren't worth mentioning, but there have been some exceptional apps that have risen to the forefront of what the App Store has had to offer throughout the year 2010.

We've covered a lot of App Store apps this year on iDB, with the goal of keeping our readers in the know.

Now, we’d like to take some time to reflect on our favorite App Store apps of 2010. Being included on this list doesn’t necessarily mean the app was released in 2010, it just means that it was amongst our most utilized of this year. Drumroll, please…

There Were Huge Spikes in App Store Downloads Over the Holidays

I'm sure it comes as no surprise that there were plenty of iOS devices under the tree this Christmas season. Most of you either gave, or saw a loved one receive a new iPod Touch, iPad or iPhone. Two very prominent applications in the App Store, Facebook and Tap Tap Revenge, have shared their download numbers from the holidays. The results are very impressive.

Both Facebook and Tap Tap Revenge 4 have sat comfortably near the top of the App Store charts for quite some time, and TTR4 has been the number one app for several days. Both of the apps had huge download spikes this past weekend, giving us a good idea of how many iOS devices were opened for Christmas...

OpenNotifier Adds Custom Notifications to your iPhone’s Status Bar

I think the majority of people are in agreement that one of the key features that the iPhone has lacked over the years, and continues to lack, is a competent notification system.

Sure we have push notifications, but those can be incredibly disrupting and intrusive. Then there's the app icon badges, which serve their purpose, but can quickly litter your homescreen with a mess of little red icons.

What's a guy to do to get some good notifications around these parts? Jailbreak, of course.

Path, The Personally “Personal” Social Network

A new social network startup has been getting lots of attention over the past few days. I say "social network" with hesitation. Path is a San Franciso-based startup with some high profile employees from the tech industry. Dave Morin, the former senior platform manager at Facebook, is the company's CEO. Shawn Fanning, the co-founder of Napster, is also heavily involved in the project. Kevin Rose, of Digg fame, is an investor.

Don't let the attractive and mysterious woman in Path's web banner fool you, you won't find her on Path. In fact, you won't find many people at all. Because Path only lets you have 50 friends...

Facebook iPhone App Updated, Brings Groups and Deals

Facebook held a special mobile event yesterday at their headquarters in Palo Alto, California. CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, addressed the company's new mobile strategy. Among some updates to the Android app, the official iPhone app was given the most attention.

Facebook v3.3 adds a couple of interesting features. The look of the app has been slightly restructured in the News Feed to consolidate space. Beyond the small updates to the user interface, Facebook added two major features: Groups and Deals...
