Apple's unique selling point for the iPhone 4S is Siri, a digital assistant that knows what you mean and how to answer your questions.

For all Siri's polish and ability to take real language and turn it into emails and text messages, there is one glaring omission from its repertoire, and that's the ability to tweet or update your Facebook status.

With Twitter now very much built into the fabric of iOS, it has been a surprise to many that Apple didn't give Siri any hooks into the world of 140 characters and less. But fear not, for those of us that are addicted to Twitter can now send messages using Siri, and it's super easy to set up...

Magic Land Island is First Facebook Game to Take Advantage of Project Spartan

Facebook's infamous Project Spartan, the company's HTML5 app store, went live yesterday as part of the update to the Facebook mobile web site, iPhone app and new iPad app. As part of that silent release – no fanfare, no CEO on a stage, no sweaty Mark Zuckerberg – Facebook gaming giant "wooga" launched the new platform's first game, Magic Land Island.

While the game itself is mildly interesting, it's the technology aspect that is worth noting, and wooga's CTO, Philipp Moeser, seems particularly excited about the possibilities afforded by mobile HTML5 applications...

Mashable posted an article yesterday that tells an interesting story about the relationship between Apple and Facebook. Although the two companies are expected to make a joint announcement next Tuesday, things haven't always been peachy.

This is perhaps most obvious in the noticeable absence of a native Facebook app for Apple's tablet. Facebook's iPad app has reportedly been ready for several months, but we've yet to see an official release. Before his retirement, Steve Jobs was personally involved in negotiations with Facebook...

Facebook to Launch iPad App and Project Spartan Early Next Week

According to MG Siegler of TechCrunch, Facebook is set unveil its long awaited iPad app and Project Spartan, the HTML 5-based mobile platform the company has been working on for months, early next week.

We know the iPad app has been ready for a while – which was confirmed by a former Facebook employee – but it appears that Spartan has been ready for quite some time, too. But the company has apparently been working out the kinks with Apple. Better than that, Facebook may unveil these new products at Apple's iPhone 5 launch next week...

With Apple expected to release iOS 5 to the public in the next few weeks, more and more details are coming out of the woodwork. The Cupertino company only demonstrated 10 of the software's 200+ new features in June, so there's a lot of room for discoveries.

Earlier today we told you about iOS 5's secret Assistant feature, the Siri-based voice control system that will set Apple's mobile OS apart from the competition. Now there is news coming in that the software will also include Facebook integration...

Is it just me, or does it seem like the 'buzz' around Google+ has quieted down over the last month or so? Now it just reminds me of that toy you begged for in the store as a kid, and then only played with for 10 minutes after you got home.

But maybe that'll change. Maybe it'll find its sweet spot, somewhere between the family and friend oriented Facebook and the here and now news of Twitter. We'll find out in the coming months, as the previously invitation-only service just went public...
