Samsung unveils the Galaxy Tab S with multi-user fingerprint sensor

Samsung hosted an event in New York yesterday afternoon to take the wraps off a new version of its Galaxy Tab. It's calling the tablet the Galaxy Tab S, and it includes a high resolution Super AMOLED display that comes in 2 sizes: 8.4 and 10.5-inches.

Perhaps one of its most interesting features, though, is its fingerprint sensor. It can recognize up to eight different users, and each scan will load a different custom user profile based on the fingerprint with personalized settings, app shortcuts and more...

Sony unveils Apple TV competitor ‘PlayStation TV’

During its high profile E3 keynote yesterday, Sony unveiled the PlayStation TV, a rebranded version of the PS Vita TV it showed off last fall. The device is small enough to fit in your hand and costs just $99, making it a direct competitor to the Apple TV.

Like the Apple TV, the PlayStation TV will support a variety of streaming services including Hulu, Netflix, and of course Sony's own content. But unlike Apple's set-top box, it'll have a heavy focus on gaming, supporting some 1000 popular titles at launch...

Amazon announces June 18 launch event for new device

Amazon has just announced that it will be hosting a 'launch event' on June 18. The company doesn't offer up a whole lot of details, other than founder Jeff Bezos will be on hand, and a new device will be shown off.

In addition to sending out invitations, and tweeting about the event, Amazon has also posted a cryptic video of people trying out the device. They don't say way it is, or show it, but it sounds like the rumored smartphone...

WWDC roundup: what to expect from Apple’s keynote

We're now less than 24 hours away from Apple's highly anticipated WWDC 2014 keynote. Beginning at 10 AM PST tomorrow, Tim Cook and other executives will take the stage at the Moscone Center in San Francisco to give us all a glimpse of the company's future.

T-Mobile announces Uncarrier 5.0 event slated for June 18

Somewhere during the craziness of Apple confirming the Beats acquisition deal yesterday, T-Mobile announced that it will be hosting a media event next month. The carrier sent out invitations for an Uncarrier 5.0 event, to be held in Los Angeles on June 18.

The invite, posted above, reads 'we don't play it safe and sound,' but offers few clues on what T-Mobile is going to announce. In previous 'Uncarrier' events, however, the company has addressed various parts of the wireless business that most annoy consumers...

JailbreakCon 2014: behind the scene

As I am trying to write a catchy intro for this post, I can’t help but feel the pressure. I’m feeling the pressure mainly because I wrote a similar piece a couple of years ago when I first attended JailbreakCon. To date, this post is still one of my favorites I have published on iDB. Having set the bar pretty high, this sequel could prove to be like most sequels: uninspired and thrown out there to cash in on a previous success. This is a risk I am willing to take today.

Maybe more importantly, I am feeling the pressure because I don’t want to disappoint readers by writing the same story I wrote a couple years ago. I guess I’m feeling like a musician that is incapable of finding a different sound for his next album, you know, kinda like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Sometimes it’s good to keep the same sound. Sometimes it gets repetitive and boring. Hopefully, this time will still feel as refreshingly honest as it did the first time, while still entertaining readers, which really is my ultimate goal.

Yes, my goal is not so much to tell you about all the great workshops and talks I attended at JailbreakCon this year. My goal is to share the other side of the story. The side that no one not attending the event would be able to experience if it wasn’t for the words I’m typing on the keyboard right now. Let’s call it the behind the scene story of JailbreakCon.

So this is me, sharing my story of JailbreakCon 2014. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed living it…

JailbreakCon 2014 mini talks now live on YouTube

This year's edition of JailbreakCon saw the introduction of mini talks, short presentations by various actors of the jailbreak community on different topics. Talks were between 5 and 20 minutes and were the occasion for speakers to share some of their knowledge with the audience, without necessarily taking up a whole lot of time.

JailbreakCon will be live streamed today

This is day two of JailbreakCon 2014. Yesterday was focused on small workshops and short talks by a variety of speakers, including yours truly. Today, the whole day will be focused on talks by some of the biggest names in the jailbreak community, such as Ryan Petrich, pod2g and Saurik.

If you couldn't make it to San Francisco, you'll be happy to learn that today's event will be livestreamed so you won't miss one bit of it all...

Amazon said to be launching its set-top box next week

Following reports from last week that Amazon is planning to launch its long-awaited Apple TV competitor in next month, Amazon has sent out invites for a media event scheduled for April 2nd. The invitations ask that reporters join the company for an 'update' on its video business.

And according to a new report from Recode, the e-commerce giant is going to use the event to unveil a new set-top box device. Citing sources familiar with Amazon's plans, the outlet says the device will be capable of streaming media to TV sets, competing directly with Apple and Roku...

Samsung unveils new Galaxy S5 with heart-rate monitor, fingerprint scanner and more

Out of all the major manufacturers presenting new products at Mobile World Congress this week, no keynote was more highly anticipated than Samsung's Unpacked 5 event. The South Korean company is the hottest name in Android right now, and it was expected to unveil its latest flagship smartphone.

And it delivered. This afternoon, Samsung introduced the new Galaxy S5 handset to a packed auditorium in Barcelona, Spain. There were no paid TV hosts or Broadway dancers this time around, just Samsung leadership up on stage talking about the smartphone they built for the year 2014 and beyond...
