Apple pushes tvOS 10.1 beta 4 for developer testing

Two weeks after tvOS 10.1 beta 3, more than three weeks following beta 2 and more than a month since beta 1, Apple on Wednesday seeded a fourth beta of an upcoming tvOS 10.1 update to developers enrolled in the Apple Developer Program.

tvOS 10.1 beta 4 (build 14U588) is available as an over-the-air download on Apple TVs with a prior beta and an appropriate configuration profile installed.

Apple announces December 23-27 iTunes Connect holiday shutdown

Apple on Tuesday announced that its annual holiday shutdown of iTunes Connect will be taking place between December 23 and December 27, 2016. iTunes Connect is a service developers and iTunes partners use to submit their apps and other content to Apple's content stores. In other words, no new apps or app updates shall surface on the App Store and Mac App Store between December 23-27.

Apple on Cyber Monday seeded new beta downloads to its registered developers who are enrolled in the Apple Developer Program. If you're a developer, iOS 10.2 beta 4 (build 14C82), watchOS 3.1.1 beta 4 (build 14S879) and macOS Sierra 10.12.2 beta 4 (build 16C53a) are now readily available as standalone downloads through the company's portal for developers or as over-the-air downloads on devices with a prior beta and an appropriate configuration profile.

Apple seeds watchOS 3.1.1 beta 3 to developers

Apple on Tuesday seeded the third beta of watchOS 3.1.1 to developers. The update comes just over a week after beta 2, and it can be installed by registered developers via the dedicated Apple Watch app on the iPhone by going to General -> Software Update.

Apple removed nearly 50,000 apps from App Store in October

The Great App Store Purge, announced in September, has resulted in the removal of nearly 47,300 outdated, abandoned or non-functioning iPhone, iPad and iPod touch apps from the App Store in October.

That's a 238 percent increase versus the previous month and about 3.4 times more than the average month for the App Store prior to the Great Purge, according to data from research firm Sensor Tower shared by TechCrunch.

Today's release comes just one week after beta 2, which added Apple's new TV app. In fact, iOS 10.2 features a lot of new stuff including emoji, wallpapers, settings, and improvements related to Emergency SOS.

Apple seeds macOS Sierra 10.12.2 beta 2 to developers

Apple today seeded a second beta of macOS Sierra 10.12.2, a major software update being worked on. macOS Sierra 10.12.2 beta 2 (build 16C41b) is now available in Apple's portal for developers for members of the Apple Developer Program. The latest build can be installed over-the-air on computers with a prior beta using the Software Update mechanism via the Mac App Store's Updates tab.

In addition to the latest Sierra build, Apple also released iOS 10.2 beta 2 to public beta testers today following yesterday's developer-only release of iOS 10.2 beta 2.

Apple seeds minor update for macOS Sierra 10.12.2 beta

Apple on Wednesday seeded what appears to be a small update for the latest macOS Sierra 10.12.2 beta. The release comes just two days after the first 10.12.2 beta, and there's just a tiny difference in the build numbers (16C32f vs 16C32e), so we're guessing it just contains minor bug fixes.

10+ new features in iOS 10.2 beta 1

Apple yesterday issued beta 1 of the forthcoming iOS 10.2 software update for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
