Stay away from new Mailbox for Mac update: it’s full of bugs and breaks support for Mavericks

It's been more than two years since cloud-storage startup Dropbox acquired the popular iOS email client Mailbox, and a full twelve months have passed since a public beta of Dropbox for Mac launched, and the software still hasn't dropped the beta flag.

As a matter of fact, those among you who use Mailbox as your daily driver should hold on upgrading to the most recent release as it breaks compatibility with Macs running OS X Mavericks while introducing a host of new problems, as first reported by The Next Web.

OS X El Capitan beta 5 now available to public beta testers

Precisely two weeks following the release of OS X El Capitan public beta 4 and about three weeks after it seeded OS X El Capitan beta 5 to its registered developers, Apple today rolled out a fifth beta of the forthcoming Mac operating system update to public beta testers.

People who are on the beta program can download the new release through the Updates tab on the Mac App Store.

AT&T Wi-Fi calling rolling out to some iOS 9 beta users

AT&T on Tuesday began rolling out support for Wi-Fi calling to some iPhone users running iOS 9 beta 5. The feature was added when that beta was released to developers last week, but testers on the AT&T network are only just now able to activate it.

For those unfamiliar with Wi-Fi calling, it allows iPhone users to place phone calls over Wi-Fi instead of their cellular network. The feature was first activated for T-Mobile in iOS 8, and users have reported better call quality and improved battery life.

Seng: an Auxo alternative for iOS 8 jailbreakers

I know I've caught a lot of flack in the past for comparing other tweaks to Auxo. Some people think that I'm biased when it comes to Auxo and its creators, but as I've said in the past, I just like to call a spade a spade.

If you get offended by the mere mention of Auxo, then you may want to jump right into the article, and skip the next sentence.

Seng is a tweak that's heavily inspired by Auxo. There I said it. There's simply no denying that fact.

But that doesn't mean it's not a great tweak. Auxo 3 isn't even updated for iOS 8.4, so your options are limited if you enjoy its functionality. Developer Charlie Hewitt saw this as an opportunity, and has stepped in to offer Seng—a tweak that pays homage to the Auxo series, but finds enough solid footing to stand on its own two feet. Apple releases watchOS 2 beta 5 to developers

In addition to iOS 9, Apple on Thursday released the fifth beta of watchOS 2 to developers. The update can be downloaded and installed over-the-air using the Apple Watch app, but  be careful because it requires your iPhone be on a recent iOS 9 beta and it's very difficult to downgrade.

Today's beta 5 comes a little over two weeks after beta 4, which activated Apple Pay and fixed issues with Apple ID in the Messages app and the Activity complication. It also arrives roughly two months after Apple first unveiled watchOS 2 during its June developer conference keynote.

Apple seeds OS X 10.10.5 beta 3 to developers

Apple on Thursday seeded the third beta of OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 to developers. The software, labeled build 14F25a, is available to all registered Mac developers in the Updates section of the Mac App Store, or as a standalone download from Apple’s dev portal.

Beta 3 of 10.10.5 comes just one week after the second developer beta, suggesting that the software is nearly ready for a public release. The most recent OS X update, 10.10.4, arrived at the end of June with Wi-Fi fixes, and improvements to Mail and Photos apps.

Apple releases OS X El Capitan public beta 4

Apple on Tuesday seeded the fourth public beta of OS X El Capitan to testers. The release comes less than 24 hours after beta 6 of El Capitan was pushed out to developers, and roughly a month after the first public beta landed.

The new build is available to registered public testers who are already on beta 3 via the Updates section of the Mac App Store, or through the beta web portal as a standalone download. You can enroll in the program by clicking here.

Twitter testing out dedicated News tab in mobile apps

Twitter is experimenting with a new "Featured News" tab in its mobile apps, reports BuzzFeed. The tab surfaces trending news items, which the social network hopes will keep users engaged.

"We're experimenting with a news experience on iOS and Android," a Twitter spokesperson told the publication. "We are continuing to explore new ways to surface the best content to users."
