Southwest Airlines brings free Beats Music streaming to in-flight entertainment service

Southwest Airlines on Monday announced an interesting partnership with Apple bringing Beats Music streaming music app to its in-flight entertainment service.

The subscription on-demand streaming music service, which Apple acquired as part of its $3 billion Beats buy in May of this year, is offered for free.

Beginning today, Beats Music is available onboard select Southwest Airlines WiFi-enabled aircraft featuring a library of hundreds of human-curated playlists.

Trent Reznor talks new role at Apple in Billboard interview

Adding to the stack of Apple executive interviews we've seen in recent weeks, Billboard has published an article with Beats' Trent Reznor today, where he discusses his new role in Cupertino and what he's been working on.

Reznor is of course the frontman for the rock band Nine Inch Nails, a film score composer, and the Chief Creative Officer for Beats Music. He came over to Apple with Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine following the Beats acquisition.

Apple reportedly negotiating to cut Beats Music prices by half

As Swedish music startup Spotify announced Monday giving family members a 50 percent discount on additional accounts, Apple is reportedly pushing Beats Music, acquired as part of its $3 billion purchase of Beats Electronics, to cut the price of its monthly subscription by half, according to Peter Kafka of Re/code on Monday.

Beats Music, a free download for the iPhone and iPad, currently requires users to pay a subscription fee of ten bucks per month for unlimited streaming of tens of millions of songs from its catalog.

AT&T stops offering Beats Music subscriptions to customers

AT&T is no longer in the business of selling Beats Music subscriptions, reports MacRumors. The site spoke with an employee for the carrier who said he's been instructed to stop offering the service to customers as a monthly plan add-on.

Additionally, AT&T has pulled all references to Beats Music from its website, and no longer offers the option to sign up for the service when selecting a new phone plan. Beats Music has also removed "Subcribe with AT&T" from its website.

Apple said to remove Bose products from store shelves next week

Apple is reportedly on the verge of removing audio products and accessories by the audio equipment specialist Bose from both its store shelves in addition to the demo units as early as next week, MacRumors learned Friday from a source privy to the matter.

Although the report comes short on specifics, the decision may have something to do with Bose's patent infringement lawsuit against Beats. As you know, Apple purchased Beats Electronics and Beats Music for $3 billion earlier this year.

The development seemingly coincides with a new agreement Bose signed with the National Football League banning its players from wearing Beats headphones while on television.

Apple in talks with record labels to lower Beats Music fees

Apple is working to bring down the fees associated with Beats Music, reports Recode. The site says the company is speaking with major record labels about a new set of rights and features it would like to include in a revamped version of the streaming music service for less than $10 per month.

Discussions are in their early stages, as Apple isn't launching the overhauled Beats Music service until next year, but some critics wonder just how successful the firm will be in convincing folks in the music industry to agree to a price cut on a product they never wanted to exist in the first place.

Apple rumored to unveil rebranded Beats Music service in February

Following up on yesterday's news that Apple is looking to sunset the Beats Music brand, Recode reports today that Apple has picked a timeframe for when it wants to unveil the new service. The site says it hopes to make the introduction sometime in early February, possibly time to the Grammy Awards.

Recode's John Paczkowski hedges on the claim, calling it "a guess backed up by some industry scuttlebutt," but given his track record in predicting Apple's plans, we'd be crazy not to pay attention. The one thing he hasn't heard, however, is what the company plans on calling the new subscription service.

Apple reportedly looking to shut down Beats Music [updated]

Apple is looking to shut down its Beats Music streaming service, according to a new report from TechCrunch. Citing "several prominent employees" at both companies, the outlet says that many Beats engineers have already been pulled off the product, and moved on to other projects.

If true, such a move would be interesting considering the public praise Apple and its execs—namely Tim Cook and Eddy Cue—have given the service. It also recently added Beats Music to the 'Apps by Apple' section in the App Store, and launched a new Beats Music channel on Apple TV.

Apple TV update brings refreshed design, new Beats Music channel and more

In addition to iOS 8, Apple has released a new version of its Apple TV software this morning. The update brings about a number of improvements, including a redesigned interface, a new Beats Music channel, and support for various new iOS 8 features.

Easily the most obvious change is the refreshed design, which now utilizes flatter images and thinner fonts. The makeover is long overdue, and it helps brings the design language of the Apple TV software more in line with the iOS and Mac platforms.

Apple Stores shave 10 percent off Beats by Dr. Dre headphones until Saturday

Apple's short-term strategy regarding the $3 billion buy of Beats Electronics and Beats Music is starting to take shape with each passing day.

Not only is it actively advertising and selling Beats products through its brick-and-mortar locations and online retail stores, but now the California firm has shaved a cool 10 percent off all Beats by Dr. Dre headphones and assorted accessories.

This is virtually an unheard-of move — the company rarely discounts its own products by more than a meager few percents.

I'd say that it's kinda interesting seeing the maker of overpriced gadgets — as haters usually diss Apple — actually bring the overpriced Beats by Dr. Dre headphones to more bearable levels...

Apple adds Beats Music to ‘Apps Made by Apple’ section in App Store

Following its addition to the 'new user' prompt in the App Store earlier this week, Apple has added the Beats Music iOS client to the 'Apps Made by Apple' section of its digital storefront. The move comes just two weeks after the two companies made the acquisition official.

If you've never seen the section, you can find it in under the Quick Links portal of the App Store—either on the right-hand side of the desktop version, or the very bottom of the iPhone version. And it houses a number of Apple's iOS apps including iBooks, Podcasts, and Remote...

Beats Music posts video celebrating Spike Lee’s ‘Do the Right Thing’ film

Apple's recently acquired Beats Music has posted a new video on its YouTube channel this evening. The 22-minute-long clip is called 'Do The Right Thing 25 Year Anniversary: A Beats Music Experience,' and it's a documentary that revisits the cast and location of Spike Lee's popular film.

As the name suggests, the video celebrates the 25th anniversary of 'Do The Right Thing,' a 1989 film about the consequences of hate and bigotry in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York. The movie was controversial, but received critical acclaim and a number of major awards...
