BatteryIcon tweak brings a battery indicator icon to the Home screen

BatteryIcon is a recently released jailbreak tweak that brings a battery-level-displaying shortcut icon to the Home screen. The icon itself lends you an approximation of current battery life, and the shortcut links directly to the Battery Usage section of the Settings app.

Like the stock Clock app, BatteryIcon is a "live" icon in that it updates dynamically to show the current battery level via a battery glyph and the color (low battery shows a red color) of the icon itself. Due to this, you're able to quickly glance at the main portion of the Home screen for a quick indication of how your battery is doing.

Review: the Prong PWR is an iPhone battery case with a twist

After spending a year growing accustomed to the iPhone 6 Plus, I decided to go for the smaller handset. I've been pretty happy with the 6s thus far, but the smaller size means a smaller battery, and I've found it's not enough to get me through a normal day.

When I'm working, my dock is typically within arms-length, but on days when I'm out and about this gets to be a problem. We have several battery packs, but I find USB cables very limiting, and I definitely don't want to use a bulky battery case full-time.

That's where the Prong PWR Case comes in.

Samsung-built A9 chip in iPhone 6s found to drain battery faster than TSMC one, Apple doesn’t really agree

Does your iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus come outfitted with Samsung or TSMC-built A9 processor? The answer to that question could determine how long your device will run before its battery needs recharging.

Your key takeaway is this: while the dual-sourced chips perform identically in synthetic Geekbench tests in terms of sheer CPU compute power and GPU performance, there's a marked difference in observed battery life ranging from six to eleven percent.

You could argue the difference is barely felt in day-to-day use, but I beg to differ: energy efficiency is paramount for mobile devices and the battery-friendlier the main processor is, the longer it will run on a single charge.

How to check what apps are draining your iPhone battery

See battery usage on iPhone

Battery usage is always a hot topic among smartphone owners, and although I try not to overthink it, there are times when I'm just curious to find out what apps have been draining my battery the most. iOS and iPadOS make it pretty easy to find out the battery percentage an app uses. Here's how to see details about how individual apps have been impacting your iPhone battery.

iPhone 6s Plus teardown reveals a 165 mAh battery downgrade versus last year’s iPhone 6 Plus

After taking apart the 4.7-inch iPhone 6s, repair wizards over at iFixit have now disassembled its bigger brethren, the 5.5-inch iPhone 6s Plus (model A1687/A1634) After popping the handset open, the iFixit team immediately discovered a largely unchanged layout from the iPhone 6 and a slightly smaller battery versus last year's iPhone 6 Plus.

In line with the rumors, the battery inside the iPhone 6s Plus is of a 2,750 mAh variety, representing a modest 165 mAh downgrade versus the iPhone 6 Plus battery rated at 3.82 V and 11.1 Wh of energy, for a total of 2915 mAh.

Spyder PowerShadow case gives your iPhone 6 a boost of energy

There is nothing worse than spending the day out with the family, only to realize as the evening approaches that your iPhone 6s is running out of juice. You could risk getting a time-lapse of the sunset, but that might mean you won't be able to get directions back to the hotel. What will you do?

With Spyder's PowerShadow case, you won't have to choose one or the other. The ultra slim case gives you 120 percent of your iPhone 6s' battery life back while protecting from drops.

Charging the iPad Pro…

Apple spent little to no time during yesterday's keynote presentation. discussing charging its new iPad Pro. Following the press conference, the company has refreshed related product pages with new information and we've been able to glean some rather interesting insights on charging the iPad Pro.

For starters, the device will ship with Apple’s 12W USB Power Adapter and work with existing 'Made for iPad' chargers from third-parties. But what about charging times?

iPhone 6s achieves same run time with a smaller 1,715 mAh battery

Despite having a smaller battery capacity, the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus achieve the same battery life as their predecessors, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. PhoneArena spotted a scene in Apple's promotional video showing a 1,715 mAh lithium-ion battery, a reduction from the 1,810 mAh package inside the iPhone 6.

But as per Apple's Tech Specs webpage, the iPhone 6s provides the same ten hours of 3G or 4G data use, eleven hours of video playback and fourteen hours of talk time on 3G as its predecessor, the iPhone 6.

Apple working on fuel cell tech that could give devices weeklong battery life

Apple continues to show interest in using hydrogen fuel cell technology, as evidenced in its latest patent filing. On Thursday, the United States Patent and Trademark Office published a patent titled "Fuel Cell System to Power a Portable Computing Device."

The invention appears to be, at least initially, targeted at the MacBook, as the filing mentions MagSafe several times. But last month, the British firm Intelligent Energy proved the tech can be shrunken down, by showing off an iPhone with a hydrogen fuel cell.
