Weight, size, and battery life: iPhone 7 vs iPhone 6s

Apple's iPhone lineup just got even better as of Wednesday's product unveiling. Not only are the devices super fast, more power-efficient, and available in new finishes, but they also come with a slew of new finishes that owners of previous-generations of iPhone will drool over.

In this piece, we'll compare the iPhone 7 to the iPhone 6s so you have an idea of the differences in size, weight, and even their expected battery life.

Apple Watch 2’s larger battery shouldn’t make the device any thicker

Byte, a UK-based retailer that sells Apple-certified accessories and parts, recently posted a video in which they showed off a few supposedly genuine parts for a second-generation Apple Watch, including a thinner OLED Force Touch display and a significantly thicker battery potentially giving the wearable device a few more hours of run time.

Today, Byte published precise measurements for the above components and the numbers lead to the conclusion that Apple may have been able to squeeze in a much more powerful battery without making the Apple Watch 2 any thicker.

Samsung issues global Note 7 recall after complaints of exploding batteries

It looked like Samsung was well poised to steal some of Apple's thunder by releasing its Note 7 phablet with a redesigned appearance and wraparound screen ahead of Apple's iPhone 7 event. But following reports from users around the world about a battery issue that has caused some handsets to catch fire or explode, Samsung has now announced plans to recall every single Note 7 sold in order to prevent further damage and has also abandoned today's scheduled Note 7 launch in the United Kingdom and elsewhere.

Apple Watch 2’s thinner screen & larger battery allegedly caught on video

Supply chain rumors have asserted that a second-generation Apple Watch 2 could offer a few additional hours of battery life while replacing the current models' Glass on Glass (G/G) touchscreen with a thinner and lighter screen based on One Glass Solution (OGS) display technology. These two features—a thinner display assembly and a bigger battery—are allegedly shown in a video posted by Byte, a UK-based retailer that sells Apple-certified accessories.

Apple Watch 2 could offer a few hours of additional run time via a stronger 334 mAh battery

Prolific leakster @The_Malignant today republished a pair of claimed images of a purported battery pack believed to have been designed for a 42mm second-generation Apple Watch. Originally posted by an unnamed source on the Chinese social network Weibo, the tiny battery shows an increased capacity of 334 mAh. By comparison, the original Apple Watch is outfitted with a 245 mAh battery (42mm version) so it's entirely conceivable that the Apple Watch 2 could offer a few hours of additional battery life—assuming the leaked photo is genuine.

Volt: a customizable clock and battery indicator screen for your charging iPhone

It was only a few days ago that we showed you a tweak called Vettr, which displayed a nice and simplistic time and battery interface on your display whenever you had your iPhone plugged into a power source.

But now, a new jailbreak tweak called Volt is challenging Vettr head-on with a number of features that you can customize to your liking. We'll show you what Volt is all about in this review.

Vettr shows a simple clock and battery indicator when charging your iPhone

One of the features I really like about my Apple Watch is nightstand mode, because it gives me a way to quickly see the time on my desk right when I wake up in the morning. Unfortunately, the screen is kind of small.

With a new free jailbreak tweak called Vettr, you can effectively turn your iPhone into a pleasant nightstand clock, but it can be used for other things too. We'll show you in this review what Vettr is all about.

Double-capacity batteries loom, get ready for even thinner Apple gadgets

SolidEnergy Systems, MIT's commercial spin-off, has managed to create a technology which promises to double the capacity of standard lithium-ion batteries used in today's gadgets without increasing the size of the battery module.

The trick involves a simple tweak of existing technology that can be incorporated into existing production lines, theoretically bringing twice the battery power to our pockets from 2017.

I know what you're thinking, but don't hold your breath for an iPhone with 2x stronger battery. Given Apple's focus on thinness, thinner iPhones with the same or marginally better run time as existing models are much more likely.

Snapchat optimized for iPhone’s Low Power Mode

Earlier this week, Snapchat issued a small update to its free of charge iPhone application on the App Store. Bumping version number to 9.37, the app is now optimized for iOS's Low Power Mode which debuted in iOS 9 last year.

“When your device is in Low Power Mode, Snapchat will now automatically reduce its battery usage,” according to release notes accompanying a 96.1-megabyte download.
