Mac App Store highlights apps and games that ‘capture what makes Mac so extraordinary’

Unless you haven't been following news today, you're by now aware that this Friday marks the Mac's 30th anniversary. Apple is celebrating the occasion by taking over its own homepage with a nice interactive timeline of all Mac models, along with a cool poll and a heartwarming video to go with it.

The company's Apple Stores are also taking part in the festivities with Mac-themed window displays.

And now, a store of another kind, the Mac App Store, has joined the celebration with a brand new 'Happy Birthday, Mac' section highlighting a cherry-picked selection of free/paid apps and games that "capture the spirit of what makes this computer so extraordinary"...

Apple removes Keynote Remote from the App Store following Keynote 2.1 for iOS update

Following yesterday's slew of updates to Pages, Keynote and Numbers on iOS and OS X, Apple has removed a standalone Keynote Remote application for the iPhone and iPad from the App Store.

Attempting to download Keynote Remote using the old iTunes link yields the message saying that "the item you've request is not currently available in the U.S. store". As the app's functionality is now folded into the latest Keynote for iOS/OS X update, Keynote Remote is no longer needed...

Hipjot developer creating jailbreak tweak for his Swype-style keyboard

Earlier this month, we told you about a note-taking app called Hipjot that featured a Swype-style keyboard. The app was ok, but the keyboard garnered considerable attention, with many commenting that they wished they could make it their default in iOS.

Well we have some good news this evening. The developer of Hipjot, Yose Widjaja, is working on turning his keyboard into a jailbreak tweak so that it can be used natively. Speaking in a Reddit thread, Widjaja says he's made getting into Cydia a top priority...

Good deal: name your own price on this Mac software bundle

Good news Mac owners, Stack Social is running another one of its popular "name your own price" software promotions. There are 11 apps in the bundle, worth some $400, and like the name suggests you can literally pay whatever you want.

Is there a catch? A small one. The deal site keeps a running average of what people are paying for the package, which is currently at $8.95. Pay below the average, and you'll only get 4 of the apps; you must pay $8.96 or higher to get all 11...

New features added to Keynote, Pages and Numbers for iOS/OS X, iMovie gets bug fixes

Apple is on a roll today in terms of software updates. The company has just seeded the third OS X 10.9.2 beta to its registered Mac developers and revamped Pages, Keynote and Numbers on the web (excuse me, iCloud) with a slew of new capabilities, including - finally! - password protection for your iWork documents. Earlier in the day, Apple has managed to post a minor Podcasts app refresh and a bug fix focused update to iMovie for Mac.

And now, new versions of Pages and Numbers for iOS and OS X have arrived plus an enhanced version of Apple's presentation software Keynote with new transitions, improved presenter display options, better Microsoft PowerPoint and iCloud compatibility and more.

These software updates allow for a nice feature parity across Apple's iWork suite of apps on the web, iOS and OS X platforms...

‘Where’s My Mickey?’ goes free as Apple’s App of the Week

Apple updates iWork for iCloud with iOS 7 design, new features and more

Apple posted a major update for its iWork for iCloud app suite today. The web versions of Pages, Keynote, and Numbers all received a makeover with a flattened, iOS 7-inspired design, a handful of new features, and various other improvements.
