Rumor: iPhone 4S to be Shown Off at WWDC After All?

If you've been keeping up with the iPhone 4S and 5 rumors, you'll recall that almost all of the evidence so far has pointed to a later-than-normal refresh this year. From supply line checks to industry insiders, everyone is pegging the next-gen iPhone to launch in September.

Maybe that's just what Apple wants you to think. Rumor or not, this is the first bit of speculation we've seen in a while that points to a hardware announcement at Apple's WWDC event next month. Could it be true?

iOS Developers Joining Forces in the Event of a Lodsys Battle

Unless you've been living in a cave for the last month, chances are you've heard of Lodsys. The patent licensing company has been sending letters to iOS developers threatening legal action. They believe that in-app purchasing infringes on a patent of theirs, and they want to get paid.

After weeks of silence, Apple finally decided to speak up on the matter. While they publicly defended their developer's rights, they have not given any indication that they would help with legal fees, should Lodsys' threats ever materialize...

Another iPhone 5 Leak Points Towards a Separated Flash

It looks like we have another snapshot of an iPhone 5 component circling the web. These leaked photographs of next-generation iPhone parts have become very popular lately.

I guess it makes sense though. With so much evidence pointing to a September launch, it's logical that manufacturing companies just recently started receiving designs for the new device and are gearing up to start production...

Square Introduces “Card Case” to Revolutionize Mobile Payments

We've told you about the revolutionary mobile payment system for iOS, called Square. As a creation by  Twitter's co-founder, Jack Dorsey, Square aimed at bringing mobile payments to the iPhone and iPad in a way that's never been done before.

As was unveiled yesterday, Square has introduced the next step in its path towards dominance of the mobile payment industry, called the Card Case. Instead of paying with a physical credit card or cash, why not just use an app and your own name?

Expect iPhone 5 to Ship in September

As the industry tries to reach some sort of consensus on when Apple will release the next generation iPhone 5, another report affirms the growing possibility of a September launch.

Famed analyst, Gene Munster, has offered the most logical explanation to date for an iPhone 5 announcement this fall. We've already heard analyst after analyst claim varying ship dates and reasons for a certain time frame, but Munster's reasoning seems the most legitimate...

Beware: Malware and Phishing Emails Pose as Apple and iPhone 5

Spam emails are circulating that pose as Apple trying to sell new products, including the rumored iPhone 5. According to MacRumors, several reports have come in that talk of an "iPhone 5GS" product launch in a very Apple-like email.

Apple's products have always been used in spam and advertising to get click-throughs, but this round of spam sets itself apart with its striking resemblance to Apple's own design. If you've ever received an email from Apple, you'll notice how similar these spam messages are to the legit ones from Cupertino...

iCloud Negotiations Almost Finished, June Launch Imminent

Though it isn't a secret that Apple is planning on launching their rumored "iCloud" service at WWDC next month, it still is just speculation. The Cupertino company has been fairly silent regarding the upcoming project.

But if you look at the trail of petabyte purchases and music industry leaks, it's not hard to figure out what's going on. As more details emerge on Apple's quest to acquire licenses for their new service, evidence seems stronger than ever that iCloud is WWDC-bound...

Explosion Occurs at iPad Factory, Apple and Foxconn Comment

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks like there's been an accident at Apple's manufacturing partner, Foxconn's Chengdu, China factory. At this point details aren't completely clear but it seems the explosion at the factory plant unfortunately caused sixteen injuries and two deaths.

The Chengdu plant opened up last year in an effort to increase production of Apple's iPad tablet. The explosion reportedly occurred at 7pm Chengdu time yesterday. Foxconn states that they are working with security officials to find out exactly what caused the accident. Both Apple and Foxconn have released statements regarding the explosion...

The EFF Calls on Apple to Stand Up Against Patent Trolls

We reported last week on the appalling actions of Lodsys. The patent licensing firm has been sending out letters to iOS developers, threatening legal action if they aren't paid royalties for the use of their invention.

The company's claim that iOS apps with in-app purchasing options are infringing on their patent has been causing an uproar in the developer community. While everyone holds vigilant to see what (if anything) Apple has to say on the matter, the EFF decided to speak up yesterday...

Apple Working on Privacy Viewing Mode for Mobile Displays?

Apple's research and development team houses some of the most brilliant minds in technology today. Even the inventions that don't make it into consumer products are worth dozens of ohs and ahs.

The latest patent uncovered by the folks at Patently Apple is no different. The filing, submitted back in 2009, describes a method of allowing a user to steer light beams in different directions to effectively produce a new private viewing option...

AT&T Shows off LTE Speeds Expected to Appear in iPhones Next Year

Stacey Higginbotham got a tour of AT&T's Foundry space in Plano, Texas on Wednesday. Not only did the GigaOM author get to rub elbows with the carrier's SVP of application and service infrastructure John Summers, she also got to witness their LTE in action.

LTE stands for Long Term Evolution and has been a popular choice for 4th generation technology among wireless carriers. Verizon deployed their LTE service late last year, and other than a few hiccups, the service has been widely popular. So how will AT&T stack up?

iPhone 4 Wins “Display of the Year” Award

We all love the iPhone 4's brilliant retina display. When Apple introduced their ground-breaking, 640x960 display during the iPhone 4's launch event, the rest of the mobile display market was left in the dust. After all, how can you compete with a screen that matches the same pixel density perceivable by the human eye?

Besides the obvious appeal to consumers, the retina display has also garnered Apple the "Display of the Year Gold Award" from The Society for Information Display...
